Live Action NINJAK Film.
Hey Everyone,
My name is Travis Conover. I am certainly not a new Valiant fan but I am new to this site. As I was doing research these last few weeks I found this website and I have been taking a look around and checking out some posts.
What I want to share with you is that I am producing a LIVE ACTION NINJAK FILM that is going to be amazing. It's on Indiegogo starting today and we need to raise 20,000 USD to make this film happen. Please check out the page and donate if you think it's a worthy cause! If you can't donate financially you can even help by sharing it on Facebook and re-posting it anywhere that might be advantageous!
Trust me we have an awesome cast and crew, and I know the PROMO VIDEO will really get you guys excited!
Thank you so much for the help everyone!

Uhm, well there is this then.
Not sure how liberal Indiegogo's project criteria are, but funding goal aside, not sure I can see this being allowed to run its intended duration. I could be wrong, but despite simply labelling it 'fan film' it may still be ripe for a cease and desist.

Something tells me your attempt to make $20K off of someone else's IP isn't going to be very popular with the owner of that IP.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Hey guys. Thank you for your replies but I think some of us are missing the point. What this film is intended for is a pitch to Sony and valiant to use Ninjak as one of their upcoming movie characters. If you have been following valiant you will know that they are already planning on making a bloodshot movie as well as a harbinger movie. With bloodshot as part of the group unity I feel it only makes sense that Ninjak should also begin his own movie series.
I'm actually not making money off of what we raise. All of this money will go into production and editing cost of the short film. Also I will not be distributing this film for money. It will only be distributed to people who supported the making of the film through indiegogo.
Thanks again guys. I hope this clears some things up

Simple enough to reach out to VEI and ask them if you can make a fan film. Several of them frequent these very boards.
Heck I even asked Dinesh if I could use the VEI logo on a binding project I did for myself. He thanked me for asking and then provided me a high resolution image of logo

Re: Live Action NINJAK Film.
Considering the amount of money involved in film deals, I have a feeling they're going to look for people a little more accomplished in making movies when they're looking for people to create live-action media featuring their brand. That's not to say you shouldn't look to improve your experience, but you might be a tad unrealistic in your goals.TravisConover wrote:kjjohanson wrote:Something tells me your attempt to make $20K off of someone else's IP isn't going to be very popular with the owner of that IP.

Why didn't you inform VEI?
why is this on Indiegogo as Kickstarter is more well known??
The only reason i can assertion is that Kickstarter now does stop projects if it sounds dubious which your project certainly does..
As per the campaign you have created you will get the money if you don't even meet the goal..
So are you planning to shoot this for 100$ if that is the only money you can raise??
You keep mentioning an emmy award winning producer..His name is not mentioned..
Well,who is it??
What about the rest of the crew???
How is the 20,000 going to be spent??
What is going to be the cost breakup??
These are lingering questions..
I have already informed Dino about this..
But before you use somebody's IP it would have been polite to inform them first...
Even the music used in the video is not public domain..
It's a chart topping music single...
So as you can see this looks very suspicious to us..

Re: Live Action NINJAK Film.
I think that running this idea past VEI staff for a go-ahead would be a wise thing to do.
Having said that, I can't really see them approving the project because I think they're more likely to want to keep management of Valiant movies under their own roof.
Can't fault you for your enthusiasm regarding Ninjak or Valiant comics, but I'm not convinced that you've really gone about this in the right way so far.

Re: Live Action NINJAK Film.
Valiant fans are very loyal, and very nervous. We want nothing to possibly get in the way of valiant. We don't want them needing to put money towards lawyers fighting for their ip.
You should look at the t-shirt thread. We went nuts discussing how unless VEI says they are official... Most of us were unwilling to buy. It turned out, the shirts were official, they just got put on an eBay store before an official announcement was made.
But it took hearing it from Dinesh for most of us. The CEO is one of us, and we protect him... even when we don't need to.

Re: Live Action NINJAK Film.
I've set up a gofundme page to raise 6.5 million dollars to fund a XO manowar fan film. Approximately $100 dollars will go towards the film and the rest towards development of my runaway with the rest of the cash plan.

Re: Live Action NINJAK Film.
This reminds me of the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign that came right off the heels of E3, where the money goal was less to actually make the project and more to prove to investors that there was interest and thus a market. However, there are two major differences between this and that.
First, that Kickstarter was (presumably, at least) done by the creator of Shenmue himself, and was to some extend done in conjunction with Sony. There's a natural influence, a natural push there. I mean no disrepect, Travis, but who are you? What makes you think that you'll front-line this kind of ripple effect among others?
Second, Valiant seems to be trying to create a cinematic universe akin to what Marvel's done and what DC plans to do. We have no idea what they have planned for Ninjack, and I'm certain you don't know either. Assuming everything goes as planned, anything you have in plan will need to be able to work with what they want to do. Sure, Marvel was able to work Edgar Wright's Ant Man plans into the mix, but that's Edgar freakin' Wright. And they still had to compromise and rework it, to the point where he left.
I also find it suspicious that you're using IndieGoGo instead of Kickstarter. Because while on Kickstarter you wouldn't get the money until you met your goal, on IndieGoGo you get the money no matter what. Just an FYI.

Also, whilst I've got no disrespect for your high-flying martial arts skills, unless you can pull off a remarkably convincing well-spoken upper class english accent you might as well put a bullet in the project now. Can't think of anything that'd put me off of a Valiant film more than a portrayal of Ninjak with an American accent.

For some reason I remembered about this and decided to look into what he ended up making, a laughable $645. Only 8 contributors and 1 actually gave $500. I hope he knows this Travis dude so he can get his money back!

With all due respect, why jump all over the guy. There have been fan made films with other company's intellectual properties, Batman Dead End and, Gray, and World's Finest. If it is a fan film, and not sold, I do not see the problem.

It's the norm when someone comes up with an idea or thinks out side the box Valiant fans crap all over them. Sometimes I feel the 1% is actually bigger than they claim it's easier to be a sheeple than be diferent than the stereotypical mold like or discount like what other think or speak out pretty much about anything, put your self out there and try something new. He was trying to raise money for it. How is that different than selling it? That's where the problem is. Exactly. I would love to see fan films (and I think VEI would encourage it) if there wasn't money involved.jeremycoe wrote:He was trying to raise money for it. How is that different than selling it? Re: Live Action NINJAK Film.
People can earn income from things like this by posting it for free on youtube. It's more a copyright issue than anything. By someone doing something lime this without permission, VEI is forced to confront it to maintain their intellectual property. That means less time and focus on making the best stuff they can. Like ninjets.
