Unity #25 Discussion
The PSAs are hilarious.
The other shorts, however, didn't work because Unity doesn't have a rich and long enough history to do these weird and parallel world adventures parodies. So Woody, you failed big time!

Re: Unity #25
I've only read a handful of the stories, but they have been really funny. Liking this issue so far.
I would liked a little more reference from Kindt about Gilad's death, though I suppose that was handled by the mural being painted on the wall.

Re: Unity #25
Well, I was kind of sorry to hear that Unity was ending, although the two arcs in a row that focused on one character at a time was very grating. At least they went out with a bang with that two issue story arc by Asmus.
Weird that they ended the series at 24 instead of going to 25 like the other series that made it that far. I guess there just wasn't anything better for them to do with a 25th issue. Could be worse, right? They could have made it an idiotic Quantum & Woody story and passed it off as tangentially related to Unity somehow. Good thing I never have to read that travesty. That would have been ALMOST as bad as Dead Drop was.

Re: Unity #25
I enjoyed this book a lot. I liked that Woody was trying to sell stories to Hollywood. This allowed for him to embellish some tales with some wacky scenarios.
Loved the cameo appearance of the Bad Eggs and even Divinity werewolf! The humor was on and I enjoyed the meta commentary. "They were better in the 90's!"
Nice assortment of creators and a good range of content. I loved Kindt's tale at the end. Beautifully rendered and a nice send away. I'm looking forward to seeing
where the cast will turn up next.

my thoughts on each story
-one where gilad destroys the earth: pure dumb fun, loved it
-ghosts story: good art but not very funny
-PSAs: hilarious and i like the vhs effects on it
-Ninjak and Livewire product placement one: not funny, probably the worst one
-kupperman story (parallel universes): funniest story, love it.
-the one with kano art where they try out different members: hit and miss but of course the art was great
-kind-t's sendoff story: better than most of the unity issues he wrote, kind of hilarious that all of these unseen missions sound a lot more interesting than anything we actually read about
-quantum and woody bookends: average writing and below average art. its an ok concept though.

Re: Unity #25
I swore I wasn't gonna buy it, but there it was in my bag. I'm kinda glad I did.
I laughed more times than I usually do in a QW story. There were a few great moments... "Wait! Behind you! Is that a Roomba for only $59?" The PSAs were great, too.
A lot of super art throughout, that's what made me actually buy it when I thumbed through it at the counter.
Overall, very well done. I liked Matt's touching sign-off. And no Owly.

Re: Unity #25
I still feel like this was a strange choice as a send-off issue for the series, but there was some good humour & artwork throughout. The PSA's were great, and I liked the uber-extreme Eternal Warrior story where he blows up the entire planet at the end - that was great art by Bart Sears, too
Matt's finale was also very cool, and on that note - one element I liked the most about this was that it didn't really tell a story about the end of the Unity team. They're still out there, even if some members are busy or indisposed via their own series at the moment. That's one thing I did not want to see happen here, a formal disbanding of the team to sign off. Leaves it open to return in the future, or have them all appear in other books in the interim.

Re: Unity #25
A pointless way to end a series that has really tailed off IMHO. The PSA's raised a small smile, and I felt Kindt provided a few decent pages of coda as a creator (despite the fact that I felt he had lost his way for a year), but I really don't see who this was aimed at.
Clearly not aimed at regular readers of Unity given the tonal shift.
So was it aimed at Asmus fans?
Some other group?
Or was it some self-indulgent wankery?
Honestly, it pretty much screamed the latter to me. Disappointing choice VEI; disposable and pointless bar a few pages in this reader's opinion. And the Kindt cover? Sorry, I think it was a poor choice.

Re: Unity #25 Discussion
I'm not usually a big fan of superhero parody stuff, or ending a previously "serious" series with a comedy mash-up issue, but I have to say I enjoyed this one. Most of the stories were funny and entertaining, and I appreciated Kindt's poignant send-off story done in his unique art style. I really hope we will get a new incarnation of Unity soon. I know others had big problems with this series, especially over the last year, but I enjoyed Unity from beginning to end. I enjoy seeing these characters interact and feel there is so much potential for compelling stories with the Unity team. And Livewire is too good of a character to have sitting on the sidelines. All members of Unity have solo titles now except for Livewire, so I hope they don't forget about her.

I actually liked most of the stories in this issue, particularly the future EW tale and the PSAs, but it made Unity out to be a joke. I suppose that's fitting considering that's what the title had become.

Yes, I just noticed that. She's on the cover on Imperium #14 (I think) with Harada. Yet another story arc in Imperium to look forward to!

Burn this issue with fire and never speak of it again. I loathed it and fully admit that the series was uneven for the last half of it's 24 issue run. However, this blatant bait&switch of an issue which is really just a Q&W one shot thinly masquerading as a UNITY retrospect was a disservice to the book and the readership.

I do think that tonally and sequentially you are right, that it was something of a bait and switch.Captain Craig wrote:Burn this issue with fire and never speak of it again. But for never speaking of it again? Saying how one feels is probbaly the only way to deter VEI from producing something like this again.
I can see some enjoyed it, but I thought it was poor entertainment, and therefore poor value, with only a few pages of worthwhile material (IMHO) given what had gone before in 24 issues.

I was just being snarky and trying for some humor.
I get that some liked it, I'm ok with that.
Was just goofing---but seriously, I hated 99% it. The bait&switch was a poor taste move I felt.
Since it's not really that memorable I really don't expect much to ever be spoken of the issue again cause nothing important happens.

Sorry!

I thought it was so awful in its ill-judged attempts at humour, that I have a humour bypass even thinking about it!

Initially I hated much of this and only picked it up so I could have the complete run. #23 and #24 were very good I thought and then this uncharacteristic ending to the ongoing...
It's been a while now so I think I'll re-read and see if I still feel the same way.

Finally finished issues 23-25 and found it to be very disappointing. I feel this title has been going downhill for several issues now. Maybe a re-read someday when I get the second Deluxe HC, but not looking forward to it.
