Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
Very late announcement but glad someone caught it already: A Sound of Thunder has an exclusive variant of WotEW #1! This is one of the most metal comics I have ever seen, and we wanted to keep promoting Valiant to our fans, so we popped for an exclusive. We were lucky enough to get this killer full-color Pere Perez cover! Print run is 500. We also got a bunch of incentive variants, so as well as the ASoT variant, we have the 1:10, 1:20, and 1:50 variants available on our site here: http://www.asoundofthunder.bigcartel.com/
If anyone missed out on the album goodies, we are running low on the blue & white vinyl (print run 250), and will be pricing it up to $35 from $25 soon, so if you want one, grab it now. We're also running low on the picture disc vinyl (also print run 250). Someday people are going to realize how crazy low the print runs are on these and the prices will shoot up, so help us make space in our stockroom (ok, my basement) now!

Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
For some reason the database never opens
On my phone. So in addition to the store
Variants there are the abcde covers,
1:10,1:20,1:50 variant
That would make 22 covers.
Im also seeing a green baltimore con
Variant so that would make 23 covers?
Mile High doesnt have a variant?
Nor Ultimate Comics?

I wrote this comment in the "Ultimate Variant Insanity" thread that was started by JMatt, but it fits here too:
Adding to the variant insanity is 23 covers for Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #1, when you add all the retailer variants. I have really grown tired of these gimmicks when this book should be at #9.
Another loyal Valiant fan that is spending less going forward.

Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
2 points on this. Eternal Warrior #8 came out a year and a half ago. You really think they should have continued the numbering from there? Also, with the retailer exclusive variants VEI can't really limit the number. They can't let some stores do them and not others. It gets opened up and any store that wants one can order one. The fact that there are so many is actually good news for VEI. It means more stores see the opportunity presented by creating exclusive VEI books. That's a lot better than it was even a year ago as far as the health of VEI is concerned. I do recognize that it is bad news for someone that feels they have to have one of everything - but it is good news for VEI.mkb28 wrote:I wrote this comment in the "Ultimate Variant Insanity" thread that was started by JMatt, but it fits here too:

Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
I agree with you Jeremy that it is good news for Valiant, but if you read through these threads, every week more and more people are buying less or giving up collecting altogether. I think the excessive variants has something to do with that. I was only joking on the issue #9 position, but I do think this is way too much hoopla for a previously launched title.jeremycoe wrote:2 points on this. Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
I like chasing variants and don't view it as a negative that I can't find them all. However, I think it's hilarious that there are so many, that this board of completions can't catalog them all, even with all the insider info and a database to collect it. I believe it will make these books collectible for some time.

Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
A lot of people buy a variant that their local store puts out. Yeah, they may not buy issue 2.
I go for the Valiant variants, as in, the ones they do. Not the individual shops, although if I find them very cheap, I've bought them.

Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
Yep, same here. I've also wondered if there may be a generational shift in readership occurring, which may be bringing new readers to VEI to offset (or outnumber) the veteran readers who are reducing or eliminating their collections.mkb28 wrote:if you read through these threads, every week more and more people are buying less or giving up collecting altogether. I agree with this. I am soon to be one to not collect any covers anymore myself due to the large quantity of variants out there.Tony_H wrote:mkb28 wrote:

Having said that I can see how well this is working out for VEI. They give shops killer deals on these exclusives and thus it really pays off for the shops to push these titles as their per issue profit margin is higher.

Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
Good point, Tony. I know for me, I am staring down the barrel of three kids going to college and that has changed my spending priorities. I am no longer buying CGC slabs and in fact, I will be selling all of my slabs in the near future. I also decided to stop buying the variants for the number 1 releases and for now, I am just buying one copy of Cover A and the Deluxe HC editions. I am trying to decide if I want to bind my singles into HC's, just like I did with my VH1 collection, or just buy the Deluxe HC's as they are released. The paper quality is so much nicer in the Deluxe HC's, plus I am usually several issues behind in my reading to begin with, so I am leaning this way.Tony_H wrote:Yep, same here. The bottom line is that I am buying less now and one or both of these things will have to go in the future- the single issues each month or the Deluxe HC's.

Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
One positive I can say is that though some of
These retailers may charge say $10 for a variant
Other retailers are charging around $4 for their
Variant. Obviously Valiant hasnt reached the level of
Dark knight with 40 covers but Archie and
Back to the future had a buttload of variants.
The problem is that ive contacted all of the
Shops selling the variants and several havent
Even had the decency to respond. All the variants
Are 500 print run which is not going to sell out.
So why dont these shops also sell them at
Valiantfans.com??? Maybe theyll make their
Money on the battle axes. I will be visiting
A shop I dont usually go to for lcsd for the
Two valiant variants. One of the locals got
Fed up with all the events that he has to
Pay for free comics.

Re: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior Variants
Let me give a little shout out to BloodShot and SonicDan.
If you are a retailer variant collector, they usually have several variants to choose from in their sales threads and you can get a few at a time and just pay one shipping charge. I did this for all the Rai and Unity retailer variants. The shipping charges really add up if you try to buy these from one retailer at a time.
