2016 Titles Speculation

Post by Bl00dsh0t »

Looking at what we can expect from Jan, there seem to be some slots available for new/returned titles.

Here's Jan (so far)
1. Bloodshot Reborn #10 (new arc)
2. Death-Defying Doctor Mirage: Second Lives #2 (of 4)
3. Faith #1 (of 4)
4. Imperium #12 (FINAL?)
5. Ninjak #11
6. Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #3
7. XO Manowar #43 (new arc)

That's 2 less titles than the Dec solicitations. I hope Imperium continues past 12 but who knows.

Divinity II stars in April and we know that Harbinger and Archer & Armstrong are on the cards for 2016 (you'd think so given the promo in Valiant's FCBD).

What could we see in Jan 2016? Unity, Timewalker, and Rai (current arc) all end in Dec. Think Valiant will publish 9 or stick with the above slate? Interesting times to be a Valiant fan.

Dinesh has tweeted the A&A promo art from FCDB recently which makes me think it COULD be in Jan's solicitations with Harbinger possibly following in Feb (after the 12 issue Imerium run - if it ends with 12) given we've got the Harbinger #1 (2012) $1 debut arriving in Dec.

I see no reason it can't. I mean, Harada has a lot on his plate; building his perfect world could go on forever. But Dysart might wanna give it a rest and let it sink into the background, while he does something else for a bit.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Future readers can jump on and catch up reading floppies or TPBs... but they can never recreate the experience we're going through right now. The monthly waiting and speculation, not knowing which books will arise and disappear, watching the company grow and stumble and succeed and innovate... all stretched out across the months and years, as we've been experiencing firsthand. Interesting, indeed.

With Ninjak and Bloodshot both having stories involving Shadowman around the same time, its safe to say that we'll get a Shadowman series later in 2016.

I hope so - Shadowman is one of the most viable properties Valiant have. #0 and #10 of Jordan's run show how powerful the book can be.

My guess for 2 more titles for January

Quantum and Woody 1 shot or mini

Timewalker #0 -- as a way of wrapping up Timewalker and as a bridge to either A&A or some other FVL related project

I actually like Q&W and would def pick up a mini or one-shot :thumb:

Timewalker #0 is a MUST as some stage imho - great to have it as a bridge between the last issue and the new A&A

I really hope that Imperium isn't ending at 12. So much potential for more story there.

Also, I haven't seen anybody really talking about Rai.

This is from the solicits for issue #12: "The next chapter for the future of the Valiant Universe starts here as acclaimed creators Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain present the can’t-miss finale of RAI’s latest volume!"

They talk about it being 'the next chapter' implying continuation, but also the 'finale of Rai's latest volume'. As in the 3rd trade volume, or the series volume #2 (compared to the original Rai series in the 90's being volume 1)? Did I totally miss discussion on this being the end of the current Rai series?! Is this confirmed anywhere else yet? I'd hate to hear that this series was ending as well at 12. If that's the case it starts to feel like the half life spiral of Valiant comics is already winding down. Harby, A&A, Bloodshot, and Unity went to 25. Now Ivar, maybe Rai, (and hopefully not Imperium) are ending at 12. What's next year, all the series only going to 6 issues?

So if the 'next chapter' starts here, but Rai actually ends, then that implies another 4001 title starting up, correct? Maybe Psi-Lords finally? Or some other character introduced in this last arc of Rai? :hm:

With the exception of Eternal Warrior, they've done a good job of saying "final issue" when that was the case.

Yeah. I don't see this ending. I think they have to make clear the arc is ending because of the regular hiatus between arcs.

I don't see how this story is anywhere close to a conclusion, and neither the quality not the sales would warrant a cancellation (a la Eternal Warrior).

Also, we seem to be moving towards a big 4001 story or event next year. So it would make zero sense to end this series now. I suspect "Future Force" style cast additions may be coming soon and a second 4001 book will be launched.

Anytime a series gets to 12 and an arc is ending, there's a good chance it's the final issue... I've been wondering about Rai too though since the solicit doesn't state final issue explicitly. And it's a bit of an anomaly in VEI with periodic breaks in publishing. If the series doesn't end, I expect there to be another break at 12.

With the exception of X-O, all of VEI's series are now either a 4 issue mini, a 12 issue run or a 25 issue run.

Won't be long before we see the January solicitations though. Timewalker #0 is a good guess or another one shot of some kind.

I really hope Imperium doesn't end as well. It's my favorite comic!

I'm really excited about the "Analog Man" storyline coming to Bloodshot. It needed some action.

It does seems like they have been building to a future force style cast additions, and maybe the title is continuing in this fashion with a change in artist, do we know if Clayton is staying on past 12?

Funny... my work cohort who I recently got turned on to Valiant was saying the opposite on the similar subject - getting all caught up. He's been blasting through the trades, and told me he dreads the moment when he is all caught up and has to wait on the weekly releases rather than just read complete arcs to his hearts content.

"Welcome to the club" was my response.

I get it, and don't disagree from purely a reader's perspective. Everything reads better as a trade.

But as a fan of the company, of the brand, I enjoy bearing witness to its birth and growth.
