I like that they plan on including everything that came before, even the bad stuff, and rebuilding from there.

I agree. To me it feels like owning up to mistakes made and building a path from that place to a place of redemption for Jack.Keith wrote:I like that they plan on including everything that came before, even the bad stuff, and rebuilding from there.
Essentially it feels like Dinesh & Co. are going to own the lemon and make lemonade.
Hopefully it's tasty and refreshing.
My optimistic side is willing!!

Re: Shadowman Returns in Operation: Deadside
My fear: strong first couple of issues then a weak denouement. In my reader perception/experience, that has too often and increasingly frequently been Kindt's hallmark at VEI.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Same. Any writer can easily phase out crap in favor of gold, but it's a sign of true skill to craft gold from the crap itself.Captain Craig wrote:I agree. I've been heavily vocal about the chances of success with redeeming Boniface, but now I can't help but be cautiously optimistic. C'mon, Valiant. Prove to me that you can roll with End Times and counter, as though that was always the gameplan. Prove to me that Boniface really can be salvaged. Prove to me that I was wrong.

Re: Shadowman Returns in Operation: Deadside
With the Operation: Deadside arc in Ninjak and the next Dr. Mirage mini both launching in December (both 4 issues), it seems Like Valiant is really building up the Deadside and supernatural components of the universe. Not too much of a stretch to see a new Shadowman series coming out of the end of these arcs around April.

I'm with you both. I'm glad they are taking this approach. The fact that the character is so damaged could make for a very compelling read if this story is done right.

Re: Shadowman Returns in Operation: Deadside
This looks awesome!
I'm interested to see how Punk Mambo aligns with Ninjak - would presume this is fleshed out a little in BOD as mentioned in the interview.
Ninjak has been good so far and this third arc looks to maintain that momentum, I just hope it continues. Kindt's run on Unity has had more lows than highs at this point. Rai and Divinity are quality reads though - I get the feeling he's better suited to individual character-led concepts as opposed to team books.
Would love to see a cameo of Mirage in here somewhere....or the Shadowman-looking dude from BOD #1 and #2...

If its a great mini, the crap will be quickly forgotten. Kind-T is hit and miss for me. Sometimes it's great, sometimes not so much.Watchtower wrote:Same. Any writer can easily phase out crap in favor of gold, but it's a sign of true skill to craft gold from the crap itself.

But I look forward to it and go in with an open mind.

Re: Shadowman Returns in Operation: Deadside
Very happy as well that Jack is returning (though most of us here knew it was coming soon and likely in the pages of Ninjak). He's a top level VEI property and deserves a proper run in this universe.
While I like what I read from Kindt and company about their take on things--and how they plan to bring Jack back from the sewage pit he was left in after End Times--I am also a tad worried about Kindt taking on another VEI "top gun." He already handles Ninjak, Rai and Divinity (albeit in mini series format for now), and while we are unsure of Unity's future, there is that as well.
I'm really hoping if/when Shadowman returns as a series it will be under a different pen. Lemire would be great, Van Meter could do wonders, or even some new blood. I love VEI, but lately it feels like the Kindt-verse.
