If the movies are good (even if one of the 2: Bloodshot and Harbinger) then the possibility of rocket ship is there. One good movie means more movies, 3+ movies = rocket ship (IMO)

If the movies are just middle or even bad, then, we still have great books to re-read.

In normal circumstances, one good movie means more movies. But VEI has already locked in at least 5 movies (Bloodshot 1-2, Harbinger 1-2, and Harbinger Wars) that ARE going to happen due to the cash influx from their DMG deal. Profit from those can pay back the investors and add capital for VEI to keep going with more movies. Unless the comic book movie market massively crashes before Valiant can get a foothold (and I don't see that happening with the slate of Marvel & DC movies lined up), then I think they're gonna be a solid 3rd place for shared comic cinematic universes and attract enough attention (to the movies and the comics) to light that rocket ship's engine very well!!

It's important Valiant's first movie makes money. Sony had scheduled numerous Spider-Man movies for the next decade, but all those movies were canceled when Amazing Spider-Man 2's box office receipts fell below expectations. Now we're in for another relaunch, but with Marvel spearheading it. Disney had ambitious plans for a John Carter trilogy, but the second and third films won't happen because the first didn't make enough money. If Bloodshot loses money, no one will touch a sequel and Valiant can kiss its other four Harbinger Wars films goodbye -- no deal Valiant has with anyone will change that.

I suppose it's worth considering the Bloodshot movie is very unlikely to cost 150-million-plus dollars like Marvel and DC ones, so lower receipts would be acceptable. And if Bloodshot does fail, even if Hollywood steers clear of the stinky carcass, that doesn't mean Harbinger or Shadowman won't go ahead. Staying on topic, maybe a Geomancer movie?

This.

I can see it happening too, where you have to make 25 movies and then DMG throws in a Geomancer movie that is unrelated to the other movies and also will not be released on Netflix or Blue Ray. :P

But seriously, I'd love to see a Geomancer movie. Maybe Kay can survive in the movies.

Good points re: planning versus actual production.

That depends on the schedule. I'm not sure if any timing info has been released other than Bloodshot in 2017, but I think unless they're okay with Harbinger Wars being a decade after Bloodshot, then there will have had to have been some development on a Harbinger feature before the release of Bloodshot. I imagine we'll see one of each before it would determined that the plug gets pulled on further movies.

I'm hoping we'll be lucky enough that they'll do a movie a year or something like that. Bloodshot 1 in 2017, Harbinger 1 in 2018, Bloodshot 2 in 2019, Harbinger 2 in 2020, Harbinger Wars in 2021? That would be awesome! Hopefully we don't have too much longer to wait to get more movie details.

The bloodshot movie is going to happen.
Something pretty major would have to happen for Harbinger not to be made.

But if one of these 2 is not "good", doubtful the others would be made. Regardless of prior announcements.

Unless VEI makes the movie all themselves.

To get to bloodshot 2, harby 2, and harby wars, one of the 1st 2 needs to be a sucess.

Wow. :o I almost feel bad that I complained about the $30 price tag at my lcs, key word, almost. But, with that being said, I finally went to pick it up yesterday, they took five dollars off like they said they would, but when I went to check out, they said it's only gonna be $15, after my %10 discount, I only paid $13.51 for LOG. After reading said issue, that was only 16 pages of content, let alone, not that good, I feel bad for anyone that choose to put up $50, because it's nowhere near, worth that price, at least to me it's not. Really good detailed art though, it's not my cup of tea, per sey, but I respect the talent.

I picked up a copy of BoD:LoG#1 from the shelf in my LCS and bought it for regular price, $3-odd. Minor ding on the cover and minor scuff on the spine, but as a reading copy I'd say that's a result.

Marvel & DC's movie slates are exactly what make me fear a comic book movie crash. I still think this is a legitimate possibility if not a likelihood eventually. Fortunately even a movie in a passe genre can distinguish itself if it's made well enough, so let's just hope Valiant knocks it out of the park.

Funny thing...

So I (like several others here) ordered a few copies of LotG; and later received emails stating our orders had been cancelled.

So, I ordered from other distributers only to have those orders reduced, cancelled, or the price modified.

Then today these arrived at my office:

Image

Now, I'm no comic book distributor, but I can swear that these were cancelled quite a while ago. Nevertheless, here they be? :?

DAAAAAAAAAAAANG DBS! 15 copies!! :o So if they were cancelled before, does that mean you paid nothing for these, or did they charge you after the fact? Quite a hoard there. I was happy to get my one copy!

I'm sure I had to have paid for them, but haven't checked my statement from that time period since I ordered them when VEI first announced LotG.

4x Ordered from Things from Another World - order cancelled & unfulfilled.

4x Ordered from Midtown Comics - 1.) notified of a 1 per customer limit and 2.) of a price increase from $36 to $42. 4x copies received all for the original listed price $36 :?

Interesting. I ordered Ed's set (1-4) but I won't get the books until they're all out, but I'm not expecting any issues.

Things from Another World order was cancelled & unfulfilled.

Mycomicshop order was cancelled & unfulfilled. They had charged me for the order and then tried to convert my charge into a store credit, so I actually had to waste my time requesting a refund for the order that *they* cancelled. F*** mycomicshop.

DCBS order was cancelled & unfulfilled. Crossing my fingers now.

I plan to screen all 16 copies for 9.8 minus any with obvious issues (e.g. spine creases, splitting, tears, etc). The intent will be to submit to CGC most likely since my experience with CBCS has yielded mostly 9.6's and my CGC experience has yielded mostly 9.8's.
