BOD: The Fall of Bloodshot - Discussion
Wow. If all the "Fall of..." Book of Death are of this quality, then hot damn! That was fantastic!! Serious lump in my throat at the end. Not at all the way I saw Bloodshot going out, but really touching.
Perfect mix of spelling out Bloodshot's future without going into too much specifics. And the teasers... oh... the teasers....: X-O Army, the Vine Executions, Rampage, the War of the Brothers, the Psi-Lords (double fist pump!)! I think the hard part after Book of Death will be waiting and hoping we get to all these events!
Speculation on the boy. Was he there, or imagined?

I think the boy could have been a nanite projection but the way it ended kind of implied he was real.
Love how Bloodshot fulfills the roles of both Magnus and Turok.
If we ever get a run or mini of Bloodshot and Aram as pirates I will be very happy.

This was an indeed an awesome issue. I like the quick summary of the remainder of his life.Brapbrap wrote:I think the boy could have been a nanite projection but the way it ended kind of implied he was real.

I think the boy was a projection, but the dog was real.
Also, does anyone else think this book is not for a Valiant newcomer.
It seems like a book designed as a treat for the Valiant faithful, especially with all of the teasers. For this reason, I understand the preview scores.
This is what happens when you try to work...

This issue was WOW just WOW
I really think the boy was a projection since he reiterated that he had no other place to go Several times...
High expectations going into the next one shots after this issue

Re: BOD: The Fall of Bloodshot - Discussion
Awesome book!
I guess I'm weird like that, but I assumed the boy WAS Bloodshot. That Bloodshot's nanites would take over the boy and somehow the boy would find his way to the Faraway.
From the Faraway, you've got General Redacted (which was a giant word on a double-page spread) getting Ray (the boy, the man) for the 20th/21st century.
The whole thing could be a big circle... there was a Ray, who became Bloodshot, who met Ray.
But I'm weird like that.

I like the idea, Greg, but I'd get concerned if too stories wound up this way using the Faraway as a plot device to an Oroborus (unless it's the origin on Aric and Shanhara I've posited in several occasions already 8) )

Right, but in the case of Bloodshot, we know the nanites have a history connected to the Faraway.BugsySig wrote:I like the idea, Greg, but I'd get concerned if too stories wound up this way using the Faraway as a plot device to an Oroborus (unless it's the origin on Aric and Shanhara I've posited in several occasions already 8) )
Plus he never knew who he was... so there was always the option that he could be anyone... even someone he hadn't met yet.

Wow. That was great...Rampage, War of the Brothers, Psi-Lords, Robot fighting, Dinosaur hunting...Couldn't have asked for more.
I do think the boy was a projection of the Nanites, but not the dog as someone said. While I was glad BS didn't die alone, I think it was nice that he died in peace and not at war.

The idea of Bloodshot doing those jobs is awesome to think about. Also the possibility of him running across Rai is well high. Will admit to being surprised by the ending, that was quieter of an end for Bloodshot than I'd of guessed.Brapbrap wrote:I think the boy could have been a nanite projection but the way it ended kind of implied he was real.

I have to say, I thought we'd see a greater connection to Rai in this issue, but it looks like we may get a glimpse of that (if any) connection in the Fall of Ninjak issue.dornwolf wrote:The idea of Bloodshot doing those jobs is awesome to think about. What a great gift to the Valiant fans!
I loved this book.
Interesting how they switched Aram for Gil as the pirate (EW Yearbook #2)

Re: BOD: The Fall of Bloodshot - Discussion
All in all it was a pretty rewarding issue for those who've followed Valiant. Lemire did a pretty great job.
I'm reminded of Alpha Centauri's deriding comments from "The Last Starfighter", "are you the kind of kid who reads the last page of a mystery first?" It will now be intriguing to see Valiant lead the story in this direction.
At the PhienixCon panel they insinuated that they have been planning these stories for a while and even have about a dozen issues completed ahead of time prior to release. They said that they have well-thought out the direction of each book in the Valiant universe and have a long-term outlook for us all to enjoy. So far things look promising.

I admit I enjoyed this book better than the main BOD issue 1.
Speculation: the nanites fuse with some dinosaurs making them intelligent and creating a new version of Mon-arch. Also the Bloodshot fighting the dinos is not Ray but his son born from the Eskimo woman.
The robot wars take place on Mars and involve the surviving Dead Hand robots, and the race Bloodshot rules over is the mixed alien races that the Dead Hand robots brought too Mars.

I'm as straight as an arrow, but I'm seriously considering asking Jeff Lemire for his hand in marriage.
This might be my favourite issue that VEI has ever put out.

I'm thinking no, because they abducted Bloodshot from the Eskimo tribe on Earth, and then had to travel in space for hundreds of years to get to where the Robot Wars were happening (near the Psi-Lords!!! This issue was excellent, superb, amazing, pick a positive adjective and it applies. definitely in the running for best Valiant issue ever up against Shadowman #0/10. For sure better than B.O.D. #1, and even better than Legends of the Geomancer #1, and it makes me wonder how or if Valiant will someday hit a Fast Forward button to move time along so we can see some of these future events, characters, and time periods. I've owned it for 2 hours and I've already read it twice!

Ivar could be used to show us some of these events in greater detail, plus separate minis.Phoenix8008 wrote:I'm thinking no, because they abducted Bloodshot from the Eskimo tribe on Earth, and then had to travel in space for hundreds of years to get to where the Robot Wars were happening (near the Psi-Lords!!! What a fantastic issue. Just Valiant goodness pouring out of every page.
I love the demise, so perfect and poignant. A man that has done so much and seen so many things, just worn out with the passage of time... just like all of us. To have climbed all those mountains and yet die alone and quiet and in obscurity in some back alley of the future... just, wow. So humbling.

It was a sad ending, but also, one of those endings, that makes you smile. This issue, and BOD proper, dropped a lot of hints pertaining to future events, seeing what may actually come to past, is what's most intriguing going forward.

A really enjoyable issue. I agree this isn't a book for someone to use as a stepping stone into the VU. It's clearly for the faithful and if faithfully does a good job.
I won't repeat the slew of exciting things, I'll mention what I'd like to see expanded on that I've yet to see in the thread: King Bloodshot, off world on an alien planet. It would be a kind of Conan meets Warlord of Mars type thing.

Holy cow what a great book, and a fantastic ending! I wasn't sure what to expect from the "Fall of" books but we're off to a great start.
