At this point, I've got goose-egg. After some research I'd only buy a PGX modern book with intent to submit it to CGC for a slightly higher grade for flipping purposes.

If it's any consolation I'm not sniping on the EW5 vcvss. My final bid is in.
Someone else may, though... :-)

I dont mean to sound like I dont like sniping..I dont mind it, but itis a little annoying when someone beats me for something I wanted. And then the same person does it twice in the same day...Oh well, my only consolation is knowing that he over paid for it to win it.

I think that I am out of the running for the EW5 anyway. If I could have gotten it for around the original price I was going to give it away..I dont think that I can give it away at its current price..

Hey, look who's talking. Thanks to you my snipe didn't even go off. Then again, I had already seen it in person, so I guess I'm included in the group you figure should step back

About CGCs. It's an animal by itself. I see comics as reading material and slabbed comics as collecting material. Being a collector that means I like to buy CGCs as well. Only have one PGA, so I can't comment on them (the one I have seems to deserve its grade from what can be seen).

The one I have seems to be graded acurately as well. I don't know if the pgx "overgrade" is a myth or from a day gone by but I consider them to be on par with their cgc counterpart.

You can spread all the lies you want, and you can even make-up so-called proof if you want, but it will never make any of it true. It may scare a few people that don't bother to find out the truth but free speech works for everyone.

We here at PGX will gladly submit to any test anyone can think of to honestly compare companies.

The only thing CGC has over PGX is they were 1st and they have millions of dollars which to spend continuing to convince people they are the best company.

Do we have work to do to improve PGX's visibilty and reputation, sure, and we will.

As far a restored books? Show me even a single book in the last 18 months that anyone has even hinted at that we missed restoration, let alone provided any proof.

Why not try learning about a company before regurtitating all the rumors and lies other people put out there? I guess you would think all the long time customers of CGC that are switching over to PGX are crazy? If I had to write down all the negative things I have learned about or had people tell me about from "the other company" I would be typing for the next three hours, but my guess is you would find a way to dismiss these things.

Luckily, none of our customers put little, if any stock in these type of statements that you seem to repeatedly make as they know from experience that we offer a valuable service.

I hadn't heard of that before. But let's ignore CGC's questionable business practices (undisclosed pressing) as well as ?able business partners.

They have been around for many years now, and there even seems to be some equality in price for issues of the same comic in the same grade, as sold on eBay. I have a feeling PGX will be CGC's "thorn in the side." They might not have the same following CGC will, but that might be in part because of all the BSD's with their hands in CGC's pie.

FYI - I am not a fan of slabbing books, period. Unless one is planning to sell the comic, there really is no reason for it at all. I just don't understand why some people go out of their way to bash something (anything) they don't like. Still, I don't see any reason people pay mutiples of guide prices for a slabbed book just because it's high grade. The "slabbing" process is to insure grade, not inflate value.

If one wants to protect their books, Mylar is the only way to go, IMO. (And it's cheaper than a slab, too!)

Whett...

Seriously, your statement is quite frankly...insane :| I paraphrase mind you (for all those still hung up on me "mis-quoting" others commentary  )..."CGC, doesn't know how to...encapsulate :? ...you mean,..what exactly? :? Whett...*smack*...listen up, 10'S OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS worth of graded CGC books are...mis-encapsulated????? So lets say for specific example..., any of my personal high grade CGC books... they're...encapsulated incorrectly :? and you believe...PG.WHO?...can encapsulate it...better? Whett... :bricks:

Whett...that is a silly thing to write, i'll further write myself, that I own, as of today, over 545 CGC graded books. I ONLY mention this to elucidate the nutty aspects of Whett's base statement. In every, single one of those transactions (submnitted books, & purchased graded books) I have never ONCE had "scs" Sure, it may occure/ have occured, but... if I hit you in the skull with an aluminum baseball bat, trust me...you're head will split open like an apple :o

Point?..surely, who knows what kind of impact these "scs claimed" books have been exposed too? It's a PLASTIC container, lined by Mylar, or Barex..if you drop it hard enough, or HIT it hard enough, you will naturally incur damage :!: So I guess, you'll be buying more PGX books? given your opinion of the CGC product, well, good luck to you :P

Bottom line, one company has a professionally endorsed, (yes, that matters regardless of conspiracy theories,) respected, and accepted industry product.

The other?...rumors, lots of rumors...many bad :| doesn't seem like a smart investment in confidence at all :tomato:

A competitor is needed for sure, but it MUST be taken seriously from the get go, and have SOME employees, with needed, and desired backgrounds IN the industry itself, something to substantiate their right to own that product.

IF a signifficant portion of your high end market is never going to give you a chance, for good, and debatable reasons...essentially, you're done...factoid of life. You may "float" along and stay in business a while, but the wrting is on that wall you look at every day, it's only time that stalls the inevitable.

I wish i got paid by CGC for my marketing prowess :D but seriously, i'm passionate about it from a biased position, for good reasons. Mainly, I want NEW, and younger collectors, not get burned by this hobby like many were 15 or so years back. Buying graded comic books is a very different form of collecting, IF you want to do it properly. ( i mean not to preach) :|

A savvy collector must be able to clearly see, that at this point, CGC has assimulated deeply into the hobby, on industry wide levels (just a fact).

Look, whatever dude, rage against the machine man...whatever  ...in the end, the product, and it's acceptence in the hobby itself, is VITAL, for a confidence, and value, being added and expected with that product.

So PGX grades well you believe? Well, I grade very well IMO, trust me...wanna send me your 10 most expensive books for grading?...I'll have them nicely encapsulated, and a nice label made up...what do you say? :thumb: ...The fact PGX grades MODERN books well?...is a bonus? I grade them VERY well, as i'm sure quite a few others in here do as well. Uggggggggggggggggggg...the horror,...the horror :atomic:

Yes, a bit of a

The one I have seems to be graded acurately as well. I don't know if the pgx "overgrade" is a myth or from a day gone by but I consider them to be on par with their cgc counterpart.

Yeah, aside from the fact they buy and sell their own books

I hadn't heard of that before. But let's ignore CGC's questionable business practices (undisclosed pressing) as well as ?able business partners.
as well as...take CGC RESTORED books, and re-slab em' PUX BLUE :x
Hadn't heard of that before, either.
Bunch of punks to be sure, I truly feel sorry for anyone buying these books :| ya might as well crack em' open now, they won't be around much longer :hope:

With all due respect Slym...you repeat one of the many misunderstandings of collecting High Grade "slabbed" books...

MOst guys I know, like myself..pay the premium over guide for the ASSURANCE that the book I am buying IS actually what I WANT. This MUST be done by a qualified, industry standard, third-party, that has an industry wide acceptance.

For ME, i will "overpay" for these books, given I know i'm actually getting what I paid for...at the very least

Please, understand that point...there is sound reason (im my opinion) for doing so, if you desire that actual grade, for the book you buy. :!:

I understand perfectly, Peter. It's your opinion (and money) v/s my opinion, and that's a battle not to actually be won. I respect that, and will NEVER tell someone else what to do with their money. I know I personally will not pay more than around guide for a book in it's respective condition - and yes, I do have a few slabs, but I got them for less than guide price for the condition they were graded in, same as a "raw" book. That's me (read:cheap)

I do notice how my other comments weren't addressed..... :D

Hey, look who's talking. Thanks to you my snipe didn't even go off. Then again, I had already seen it in person, so I guess I'm included in the group you figure should step back

 Well I can send mine to CGC...Oh wait, that's right, they'll don't know how to encapsulate books and instead will send back a big pile of stinking poo!!

See, I can play this game with you all day too and it's quite fun! :applause: The point is, I have 40ish CGC books and 1 PGX book. I like to keep my options open. I don't own company stock and I know CGC doesn't look out for MY best interest so I just do my own thing.

Let me know how much they pay you annually for these message board advertisments though! I'm curious. :thumb:

Peter Parket my friend, Wake Up! If this is the best you can do by questioning something you read and responseded to just 30 minutes ago on this very board? I'm sure in the professional legal world talking fast and dancing around facts is key to a victory but here in the internet world you can't do that...

Just think if those books ckb sent in where Amazing Spider-Man's #1-20. All 9.6... Destroyed! Sure he can get the cash equivalent but it will take him YEARS to get his collection back. In a hobby where scarcity means a book could NEVER exsist again in that condition or even at ALL, you can't afford ANY mistakes let alone a whole lot of mistakes for ONE clients order...read that again...ONE CLIENT

How many times did it take for them to mess up book after book to figure out that it wasn't going to work? Looks like alot. Hey, I don't vote for either side but I'm not plugging my ears and closing my eyes to the FACTS.... for shame...I thought you were better then this..
Unfortunately, they will no longer be using the new inner well design on Valiants. The slabbing process can hurt the book. CGC recently bought a big stack of Valiants from me they inadvertantly destroyed. Yes, they paid me what I wanted for them.

Looks like CGC is still trying to figure out how to encapsulate books. What would you call it? :?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, am I held to a different standard of posting times than others :? Am I not...allowed to post within the first 30 minutes of my first post? that seems to have bothered you?

So, let's see...you're teaching me something? :thumb: WHAT, i have yet to ascertain, but your rant makes little sense if you re-read it :|

There is INHERENT, mathematical RISK ...in the every day travels of your LIFE  for you to believe you will EVER find ANYTHING that is 100% of anything...is ignorant of life. Sure they make mistakes, don't YOU :? do you hold yourself to such a standard of 100% perfection,...every day of the year? :|

 whatever dude, "the best I could do" means nothing to me here, this was about me pointing out facts, and you ignoring them...period! 8-)

The BEST I could do?...if you say so :thumb:
