Nucking futs.

Re: Valiant Alien Diamond Woes
Tough, if they go forward they can lose a lot and if they pause they can lose momentum and run out of money. And either way any money they lose in the bancruptsy will be a heavy burdon.

Does anyone else think that Valiant is just cursed?
Everytime it reaches some momentum, something just pulls the rug out from under it.
But with DC & Marvel using other distributors, I imagine they'll possibly use one of those.

VALIANT is resilient. It's certainly doing better than Ultraverse and Crossgen...The Chosen 1 wrote: Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:06 pm Does anyone else think that Valiant is just cursed?

I’m not sure Valiant is more resilient. Both Ultraverse and Crossgen are owned by Marvel so they could relaunch any time they want. I think there’s been two separate times Marvel has brought back Crossgen for some miniseries. Ultraverse may seem dead but there is a Rune Heroclix and the appearance of Topaz in Thor: Ragnarok.ManofTheAtom wrote: Sun Feb 02, 2025 10:18 pmVALIANT is resilient. Okay - this isn’t a full relaunch of Ultraverse by any means but I think Marvel’s having a hard enough time selling their known books. But they easily have to ability to launch either line again if they wanted to and then have a distribution to do so.
Alien, at the moment, does not have that option.
Will we see Crossgen or Ultraverse anytime soon? Doubtful. But it literally could happen anytime.

Re: Valiant Alien Diamond Woes
Neither Ultraverse or Crossgen had a peak close to as high as when Valiant peaked. At Valiant's peak they were a serious threat to Marvel and DC's market share, dominated the Wizard Top 10 hot books, and had multiple issues sell in the millions.RyanMcLelland wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 3:59 amI’m not sure Valiant is more resilient. UV and CG also never had the enduring fanbase that Valiant had. Valiant had a serious cult following that was still growing years after the books had stopped coming out.
It's too bad that ever since DMG took over they've constantly been trying to chase mythical new fans instead of trying to keep the fans they had and then grow out from there. Valiant fans have been extremely loyal through the years, but when you lose those fans who have been investing 100s and 1000s of dollars a year for decades, that's hard to replace. In times of crisis like this it would be nice if they had those loyal fans to depend on for some big orders, but loyalty goes both ways and I'm not sure if many of those Valiant 'whales' are left after 7 years of constant relaunches under DMG and Alien.

I’m good on Valiant. We had 2 great runs. Time to put the toys away for a while. Let them rest.

Re: Valiant Alien Diamond Woes
Valiant is about as popular as Ultraverse in that it's still seen by non-Valiant fans as a popular but failed 90s comics company that is often at best seen now by those non-Valiant fans as a cautionary tale of greedy 90s excess and/or as a joke. Valiant is a cult classic line like Chaos, Defiant, Broadway, Now, Tops, and dozen other comic companies and imprints through the years. Just with a slightly larger fanbase than most but not by much.
Crossgen on the other hand Disney bought them BEFORE they bought Marvel. They were/are planning to release some of the original Crossgen titles in Omnibus and trades, because they have star power and most of their titles weren't superheroes but fantasy, sci-fi, and other genres that are extremely popular at the moment. Also J.M. DeMatteis has stated several times that he would love to finish that series he was doing with Mike Ploog at Crossgen before they went out of business and that book was the one of the main reasons why Disney bought Crossgen in the first place.

Massive goes Lunar and adds sub distribution arm, Massive Indies
Massive is adding an interesting wrinkle to their plan however: Massive Indies, a sub-distribution program for smaller publishers to go through Lunar via Massive:
This will be an open platform for submitting titles for consideration in the Massive Indies solicitations of the Lunar catalog. Unlike the more common imprint model for publishers, this sub-distribution model will allow each publisher/studio to maintain their absolute independence and control over their publishing line. Massive is prioritizing publishers affected by the recent news of Diamond Comic Distributor’s Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filing but sees this as a possible game-changing process for creators to access the direct market without signing deals which compromise their intellectual property rights.

I’m probably one of the few lifelong hardcore collectors and I think I’d be good with this. There are always things to collect in Valiant and some chasing of higher grade items would be more focused, and of course opportunities to was the older stuff again.Chiclo wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 12:40 pmThe time for this has come.buff-beardo wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 8:09 am I’m good on Valiant. While a good idea (and a good chance to make some head way with other companies other than DC) but this asks the age-old question of "what is an independent comic book publisher?" Does Image, Dark Horse, Boom, Dynamite, Alien, Antarctic, and Titan count as independent companies or does it just mean companies like Abstract, Broadsword, and Coffin all of which are just publishing books by Terry Moore, Jim Balent, and Brian Pullido respectively?ManofTheAtom wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 9:28 am Massive goes Lunar and adds sub distribution arm, Massive Indies
