Thoughts on this artist coming to Valiant
Not sure how many of you saw the announcement today. Valiant showed a tiny piece of art from a pretty well known artist and said he is coming to Valiant to do a run on an ongoing title. I won't say who it is, though I am pretty sure I know. I used to love his work, but I don't like it quite as much as I used to. I know there are those here who dislike it, but wondering overall who everyone thinks it is and what people think of him coming to Valiant.

I think the best part of this whole announcement is another ONGOING BOOK! We all know Valiant mixes up their artists, but an ongoing book that we haven't heard of yet is outstanding.

If it is Neal on art, that's cool. If it was Neal writing...oof.
Looks like Brett Booth. And Brett did work on Deathmate. I like his art so I think that's cool he'll work at Valiant.

While I would have mixed feelings on it being Solar, there's no reason to think it's anything but a Fisheye guardian.

Re: Thoughts on this artist coming to Valiant
I agree with Greg, but I've got to say that if Solar came back to the Valiant fold and they made publishing ongoings a priority, then I'd be back buying and all-in for sure. But basically there's no way I believe this would happen.
IMO, Valiant's best print move would be to create a small publishing schedule of a handful of books that function in a Universe which would probably translate into an initially small, but complete buyer commitment:
-Rai | tether this book to the rest of the line with hints of Bloodshot
-X-O | it's a Valiant staple, the core title
-Archer & Armstrong | when done correctly it's the perfect comic book
-Divinity | do something interesting with this character that puts him as the powerhouse of the line
-Shadowman | basically make this Batman book and dump the weird and extreme spirituality crap. You'd think that this would work as a horror title, but it doesn't
That's it. 5 books and that's your direction for the first year. It'd be a safe bet that nearly all Valiant collectors would buy the whole line, and if the books were quality then the line would grow, especially amidst Marvel's diminished market share and lack of good-faith amidst fans. Near the end of that year, launch a Bloodshot ongoing as an event. And just call it "Bloodshot". Lastly, no variants. Just ratio gold books.
Honestly, it's so simple I can't imagine why they aren't doing it. So there's Valiant's free consultation, right there.

Brett booth seems to be the consensus .... which series .... remains to be seen. Ongoing Bloodshot title after Bloodshot RS ends?

Re: Thoughts on this artist coming to Valiant
I thought Solar too when I saw the image, but he doesn't have that cyclops-style visor. Probably no more than wishful thinking. Besides, he just got shot in the face.
Not sure it's Rai or one of the fish-eye guardian either.... whoever it is looks like they're being used as a shield against bullet fire by someone with a gun. That arm looks too big to belong to Rai, although it may be someone else in a Rai title. I also don't think they would announce a Rai book when Fallen World hasn't been released yet.
If it's not a new ongoing and just a run, I'd say it's Brett Booth doing a run on Bloodshot.

But I kinda like the overall homage to the VH1 New Japan becoming the dragon.

There is just a ton of stupid in that piece, IMO...I also like the homage. At least it wasn't to the X-O bike...jmatt wrote:Like Bloodshot 4001's inflatable boxing glove. Or whatever that is.greg wrote:But... X-Eye's nanite lollipop is pretty cool!myron wrote: That didn't help any...

It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Just had a thought... what if the X-O bike had been a cool looking chopper that Aric rode around while he was just doing his day-to-day business. That might have worked.
