Archer & Armstrong and Eternal Warrior #23 + 24

Post by Brother J »

First of all, since I'm doing the re-reading project using the list of comics with shipping dates, I just wanted to let Greg know about a minor error in the comic database. The cover dates for both Archer and Armstrong #23 and 24 are listed in the database as June 1994. A&A #24 actually has a cover date of August 1994. Also, does anyone have any idea why both A&A and Eternal Warrior both skipped the July 1994 cover date? Were those books late or was there some other reason?

I guess the real question might be does anyone care other than me? :?

Also, the Chaos Effect Alpha date was given as June 1994, but I can't believe it was released that early, since the first books of the Chaos Effect crossover had October 1994 cover dates.

In a follow up to my own question, it seems like Valiant totally skipped July 1994 as a cover date as all their books went from June to August cover dates. I didn't recall Valiants ever being late, but I guess it's possible.

I don't think they were late, I would guess it was just an adjustment of their cover dating process

I remember back around 1988 when Marvel used to have books cover dated about four months in advance...a book aout in April book would be labled August. Then after that they moved it to just one month ahead.

Probably a tax thing. Maybe the same with Valiant

while you're checking into those-i think that some of the birthquake issues have the same month dated on consecutive issues (in other words if eternal warrior 38 was july 1994 then 39 would also be july 1994...i THINK.
anyone remember?

i could get off my lazy buttocks and go check-but i'd rather ask one of you to do it!

Yes, but wasn't that because they dumped a lot of titles just before or during Birthquake, and then doubled up on issues for the remaining titles?

The remaining titles came out twice per month. That was when they did the whole X-O 50-X and 50-O.

Post Dating cover dates

Post by VanHook »

The original reason comics post-dated cover dates was to comply with a postal ruling. It had to do with taking shipping into account. (This goes back to the 40's/50's) The cover-date also reflected the last month the comic was supposed to be on the stands before being returned.

This concept hung over into our era of publishing comics in the 80's/90's.

Chaos Alpha did ship during June 94. I checked it out in a comic shop when I moved across country that month.
