Damaged Case During Shipping
How do you handle sales when the CGC case gets cracked during shipping? I sold a book and the buyer said the case was cracked when it arrived. I shipped with insurance with USPS.

Re: Damaged Case During Shipping
A few things I have done.
1.) I have paid the cost of re-holdering and shipping.
2.) I have given a new slabbed copy as a replacement.
3.) I have refunded the buyer and had them return the slab.
4.) I have discussed options with the buyer, and in the end they kept it anyhow.
All of these have happened.

Re: Damaged Case During Shipping
I have been on the Buyers side receiving damaged slabs more frequently. I would say in the last 10 slab shipments I have received, 3 contained damaged slab cases. I would echo all the points that DBS made above. In most cases I took pictures of the damaged slab and shipping box (if it was damaged,) and sent a message to the Seller. Some have asked me to ship the slab back and they would reimburse my shipping costs and send me a replacement slab. Other Sellers told me to keep the damaged slab and issued me a full refund. Keep in mind, these are inexpensive slabs, usually around $50.00 or less.DirtbagSailor wrote:A few things I have done.

I have never dealt with USPS insurance as far as filing a claim, so I can't help you there. I am reluctant to even use insurance any longer because I can only imagine it is a nightmare to file a claim and receive your money back. I may just be ignorant with the process however.
Good luck!

Re: Damaged Case During Shipping
The buyer and I talked. Seeing that it was an expensive book, I asked how he would like to proceed. I was leaving it up to him. He told me not to worry about it. He said he would just send it to CGC to get a new holder. I offered to transfer the cost of reholdering ($15) to him but I have not heard back from him.
I have never had a slab damaged during shipping. I pack very well. It *SQUEE* me off when I think about it. I live in KY and it was going to TN. According to the tracking info, it arrived at the buyer's distribution center on time, but for some reason it was sent to MI from there, and then back to the buyer's distribution center. Weird.
That's strike 2 for the USPS.

Re: Damaged Case During Shipping
I've received really poorly packed slabs that didn't crack, and I've received well-packed books with problems. I've had a couple instances where slabs I shipped cracked. I've now sold a few thousand slabs, and I nearly always pack them the same way. I can't explain why a few cracked, where the thousands of others didn't. Same supplies and packing. Has to be in the delivery, or quite possibly, the opening of the package...
