CGC 9.8 X-O #1 1:500 Brushed Metal cover -- $OLD!!!

Post by BloodShot »

As-stated in the title:

Want-to-SELL my CGC 9.8 Blue Label copy of the newest X-O Manowar #1 1:500 Brushed Metal variant cover --

(And, no, I have NO idea what's up with the "smudging" on the case, cuz it ain't on the book.)

As anyone that's looking at this probably knows, our own chainnball listed his here last week with a price tag of $1500 OBO. Apparently no one was willing to jump at that, and wanted to hold off to see what the market brought in. Brian slapped it on eBay, and it closed at only slightly less than he was originally asking at $1446.87 DELIVERED:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Valiant-X-O-1-1 ... 7675.l2557" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That was pretty sweet 8-) .

To that, AFAICT, mine is the second 9.8 copy so-graded. And, just for edification, there IS another one that's been graded, and that one got a 9.6. So, it IS most definitely possible to get lower grades than 9.8's on these, as "solid" though they might appear. They are prone to scratching on the front; but the back cover NOT being "metal" (which I was initially not clear on), shows surface scratches and rub marks VERY easily, and seems to have a powerful magnet specifically for fingerprints facepalm .

Anyway, I feel certain I could at least get close to (and possibly over  ) what Brian got for his on the 'bay; but like him, I'm going to offer mine here first, and for only $1325 $1250 1125 DELIVERED.

How bow dat :hm: ?

ANY questions, please feel free to ask  .

And just like always, first :takeit: gets it!

Thanks in advance,

-B

I'm curious. Does anybody track grading trends? Like are they usually more harsh on the first few submissions, or easier because they have to set a benchmark? Is there a lot of inconsistency in the early grading specimens?

I do for the books I've personally submitted, and I can tell you this much about those, especially for some of the note-worthy ones: they most definitely have NOT graded any of those "easier". And that's coming from someone that has submitted some truly legit books that were many times the first (and sometimes the only for a very long time; and a handful of times still) CGC 9.8 copies of VEI books.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply anything, was merely curious. Especially on a book like this that doesn't really have anything to compare it against. Seems to be that they would have to set a benchmark somewhere on comps, and was curious if that is harsh in the beginning or later on or consistent throughout. We may find the 9.8s a lot harder to come by than originally anticipated!!!

I don't know the history of Crossed +100 (Alan Moore) book which might be of similar vein. Curious if the 9.9 and 10s came later or early on with that book, or if there was no prejudice at all. I would have to assume by now CGC is pretty accurate, but innovative books like this can probably have some variance.

Good luck with the sale!!!

No, more like the thicker cardboard stock-like covers from the Divinity series. Initially, I was under the impression the front AND back were brushed metal, but it's only on the front.

I'm surprised that BloodShot doesn't just feed all his books directly to DBS. I guess he only has so much money to spend...

I will never cease to be amazed at your ability to get high grade copies of literally everything Valiant. Honest question, is there anything VH1, VH2, or VEI that you haven't owned the highest grade of at one time? (Maybe Greg's Rai 10.0? Although I don't know if he submitted it. It may have been your copy he bought!)
*SQUEE* your science, I have a machine gun.

Actually, AFAICT, Jesse's bank account is never-emptying  .

My brutha' from anutha' mutha' has procured, bought, and sold an absolutely amazing amount of incredible Valiant books :headbang: . But, yes, a handful or two of those did come from me  .

Thanks for the props, D  . I do try :P .

FWIW, I absolutely do NOT wanna' come off as braggy, but I will admit I have been able to garner some incredibly tuff-as-sh!t-to-get books in 9.8 grade; I've just been very, very fortunate in that regard 8-) .

And I wish I could claim that CGC 10 copy of RAI #0 that Greg has came from me, but it didn't. Nor have I ever owned it, but would've been one proud papa if I had :) .

Just FYI:

Book is now listed on eBay --

http://www.ebay.com/itm/152499140522?ss ... 1558.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Even so, sale price on here ($1325 DELIVERED) still stands IF the purchase is made directly through the board.

Thanks in advance,

Just to confirm in case there's any concern, I just received the slab today, and there is absolutely NO smudging, smears, scratches, cracks, or otherwise on the slab, and most definitely none on the book. Guess they cleaned it up and/or wiped it down in Quality Control, 'cuz there's NO smudges now. Given that CGC took these scans, it's also possible the smudges were actually on the glass. Regardless, there are NO smudges on the case or the book.

I hope collectors are not under the impression that all of the Brushed Metal variants will somehow grade 9.8+. They won't due to the nature and design of the beast, so it will be interesting to see how this game plays out.

Exactly the point I was attempting to get across earlier, Jesse.

And to that, just to clarify:

There are TWO CGC 9.8 copies: the one chainnball already sold, and mine.

&

There are TWO CGC 9.6 copies: michael's...and someone else's.

I wish I had one but I don't. I'm in Vancouver and exchange rates make my head hurt facepalm. That makes just the one 9.6, which just sold for $501. Interesting selling for same as raw. I guess this will bring value of raws down some considering the chance of getting 9.6 + grading costs.
