Discount Comic Book Service (DCBS) Raises Shipping Prices

Post by IMJ »

Recently received the following email from DCBS.....

Dear DCBS customer,

After careful consideration, DCBS has decided that we need to increase our shipping prices in order to maintain the quality of our shipping. Below you will see a summary of the various reasons why we need to increase our shipping as well as a summary of our new shipping prices which are effective February 3rd.

Reasons we need to increase our shipping prices:

(1) Annual Fedex price increases (frequently 4.9%)
(2) Various USPS price increases, some as high as 10%
(3) A recent 8% increase for boxes
(4) DCBS monthly and twice a month shipping prices haven’t increased since April 2012
(5) DCBS weekly shipping price hasn’t increased since July 2010

DCBS’s new shipping prices:

Monthly shipping increases from $6.95 to $7.50
Twice a month shipping increases from $6.95 to $7.50
Weekly shipping increases from $12.95 to $15.50

The shipping prices that we charge to you are still significantly lower than the average prices we are charged by the shipping companies that we use and are an even bigger value when box and packaging costs are considered. DCBS will continue to use the same high quality boxes and packaging material for your shipments. We hope you understand the need to increase our shipping prices and we are very appreciative of your business!

Sincerely,
The DCBS Team

This isn't really a deal breaker for most people, but I might have to evaluate how I buy comics for the immediate future. I don't order enough books anymore to really see any savings from DCBS by the time the shipping and B&B are factored in. I think I might order like 4 books a month nowadays.

I had the 1,000,000th post on this board and all I got was this lousy custom ranking.

They do a great job. If I had the space, I'd save their foam inserts for my own book shipping because they are designed just for comic books. The problem with online ordering is that there is a breaking point whereby if you have a small order, you have actually spent more on the shipping. This increase isn't so bad, except for that my order is so outlandish small nowadays it's barely worth continuing to read.

Your point makes sense. I will not change how I buy my comics from them but I order about 30 books a month.

Their reasons for raising the shipping price, by this modest amount and for the first time in 7 years, strike me as entirely reasonable.

I've received boxes from DCBS that my wife had difficulty lifting. So, excellent packing + heavy boxes + FedEx (and not crappy dumbpost, at that!) all for $7.50 per month? AWESOME!!! :high-five:
