Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
With Valiant demonstrating that they are perfectly fine without Gold Key characters and the roles of the Solar Archetype being filled by Divinity does anybody want them back anymore???
Just curious
For me personally if they bring out another title set in 4001 with the class warfare and court intrigues of Magnus I would be happy..That's all I ever want anymore...VEI have done everything else I ever wanted from them except for Shadowman, but I am quite sure we will be hearing about a new ongoing with Jeff Lemire around April..

Feel my "SQUEEING SQUEE"
Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
One way or another I would like Magnus back, and VEI are probably the only ones who could pull if off (as shown by the recent failures from other companies). But even I agree that Valiant has no need for them.

I don't think VEI needs them now, but I would like to see something worked out regarding reprint rights, mainly so I can get the Deluxe Hardcover Omnibus of Unity that I've wanted since the mid 90's.

I wouldn't be upset if they were able to buy them outright.

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
I wouldn't mind if there was some way for them to come back, as long as VEI owned them outright. But I'm not losing any sleep over them not being here. The aren't NEEDED. I agree with you that they could easily do something else in 4001 dealing with the class issues that Magnus handled and it should work well. Hoping that the upcoming 'Britania' title might be something like this in 4001 England?Manaf82 wrote: With Valiant demonstrating that they are perfectly fine without Gold Key characters and the roles of the Solar Archetype being filled by Divinity does anybody want them back anymore???

This would be great if they could at least reprint anything.DantePD wrote:I don't think VEI needs them now, but I would like to see something worked out regarding reprint rights, mainly so I can get the Deluxe Hardcover Omnibus of Unity that I've wanted since the mid 90's.

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
I wouldn't be against them having them. If it meant getting a Solar collected edition line going, or Magnus, then yes. I don't think they need them. Would love Magnus back.

Yes, yes, resoundingly yes. Would love a new take on Turok in the Faraway. Wanna see robots and Magnus in the 4001 (a grittier version than the VH1 Magnus); not sure with Solar, but it would be a gateway into the VEI universe and allow for more exploration of the cultures and beings beyond the stars. (Maybe see the Torment, and explore what they're about outside the Vine mythos), see Armor Hunters etc

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
I liked Solar, and thoroughly enjoyed the man/God issues they explored there. Magnus, I never got past his outfit and goofy spindly limbed robots. Turok, I still don't know why... but it just couldn't hold my interest at all.
So, the one I actually liked has already been replaced, in a new and interesting way. I'm fine without them.
I am all for reprint rights. But I think the current valiant is better off working around them.

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
For me, no; I think they would prove to be an unnecessary distraction to VEI, and they have too many of those already I feel as they chase gimmicks.
I feel the line works very well on the whole in terms of stories told (with a few mis-steps - thankfully a small few). While I feel the line lacks depth in terms of the number of books each month, that does not reflect the lack of the GK3 for me, but rather under-utilisation of VALIANT originated properties.

VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
I would love to see Solar (my favorite V1 character) and Turok. Magnus would be an amazing addition to the 4000AD universe, but he necessarily needs to evolve. Similarly, Solar has so much power, I think he necessarily would have to evolve as well. Turok could make the Faraway a flagship universe.
I can't see a compelling reason why these characters could negatively impact the universe. It is a cornerstone of the Valiant Universe after all, and at the end of the day, it's all about the writing.
Do they have to have them? No, they don't have to have anything. That's going to be the answer to that question for any character or element. X-O, Shadowman, Eternal Warrior...

They're not needed, but I like Solar and Magnus and enjoyed how they worked with the other characters back in the 90s. I'd enjoy seeing a new take on that.
More important, I'd really like to see reprints of older material with them in it!

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
If they decide to spend some of that DMG $ on getting them, that's cool but I really don;t think they need them back now. As long as the writing is good, they will fit in fine, but not needed at all. I find myself enjoying VEI more than OG Valiant anyway... even pre-unity (which I never read until after 2012 since I couldn't afford them as a kid and just got back to comics in 2012). Now... all feel free to express rage at my opinion.nycjadie wrote:I would love to see Solar (my favorite V1 character) and Turok. Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?
Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
If you could work them into the new universe sure why not, but not go out of the way to retcon them in kind of thing.

They're not needed, but I still want them. At least until VEI comes up with counterparts for all of them a la Divinity.
And if only to get reprints/collections of the VH1 runs and Unity it would be worth it.

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
I actually had a talk with Atom! (my lone Valiant encounter) and he gave a clear response. He said, "Valiant would have them back if they could own them. Dinesh has made no secret about the fact that Solar was his favorite character.
Not saying I am pining - or even hoping.
But it could happen.

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
As much love as I have for the 90s version, they're unnecessary. And, I think, could signal weakness to comic buyers. How many times can they try to revive these properties?
But this has been talked to death a dozen other times.

Re: Does anybody want the Gold Key trinity back anymore
Agreed - and I'm still of the same mind as I ever was - I don't miss any of those titles in the modern VEI universe. I'd be all for seeing them gain the rights to reprinting classic Valiant material though, and it would be cool to see a nod to a Magnus concept & setting in the new 4001 era in the way that Divinity is a nod to what Solar was. Never cared a lick for Turok (even though I bought the first 10 issues or so of the title back in the 90's).jmatt wrote:As much love as I have for the 90s version, they're unnecessary. I don't want them back. If they got them back, I'm sure they'd put out good books with them, but it's certainly not required for my enjoyment of VEI's slate of books!

I only really (really, really) want Magnus back. He's still my favorite Valiant character.
I'd be interested in Solar if he was brought back and used differently. Maybe have a Unity style crossover with Solar as the bad guy?
I find Turok boring.

But i've said before, i really would like to see the original Valiant Solar, Magnus, & Turok runs reprinted. Because they were an important part of original Valiant.
