Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
Valiant's plan for Legend of the Geomancer has certainly proved contentious on the forum. Let's give it ye olde poll!
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
Not a big fan of FVL so not too fussed about this...now if it was a Vditti story then I might feel differently.
It's an interesting promotion tool and I can see the benefits, but wouldn't it have been better to have a 1990's type 'coupon in each issue' deal as most readers would have bought 2 x copies, one to read/keep and one for the coupons, ergo increasing sales!
As mentioned in one of the podcasts (Valiant Central I think?), VEI should at least make it available in one of the Deluxe releases as an extra.

That would be cool. I'm all for an old-school coupon deal, if for no other reason than to see people mortified at the idea of cutting their comics up.Dallow Spicer1 wrote: wouldn't it have been better to have a 1990's type 'coupon in each issue' deal as most readers would have bought 2 x copies, one to read/keep and one for the coupons, ergo increasing sales!![]()
Actually it's be more than awesome to have a ULTRA limited book that's only available when you cut out UPCs of EVERY VALIANT TITLE RELEASED TO DATE!!!

Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
I'm excited by it
I'm confident that I will get a copy
But I don't think its an idea that they should ever do again.
So I voted Ice cream because even though option 1 is technically the truth - I don't want my vote to seem like an endorsement of this marketing idea.

Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
I realized way early on that there would be NO WAY I could collect every variant that VEI put out. If I can snag a copy at a reasonable price, I'll do so, but if not, them's the breaks.

Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
If I can get one at a reasonable price (i. e. close to cover price) then I will buy it. I *want* to read it because FVL is my favorite writer. But if it's not going to happen I'll probably skip the event altogether and wait to see if there's a hardcover later.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
I don't know if this idea was mentioned in the other thread (the negativity turned me off but people are allowed their own opinions) but how about if the content went for a premium on the first printing but was made widely available at cover price for a second printing? That way everyone gets what they want.

Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
That's very reasonable. Actually have a TPB to collect it afterwards is also reasonable. But now they are touting it as relatively rare (with an example of Harbinger 0 pink), no TPB, no Digital. I think it's likely going to end up in Deluxe collection as another incentive.jmatt wrote:I don't know if this idea was mentioned in the other thread (the negativity turned me off but people are allowed their own opinions) but how about if the content went for a premium on the first printing but was made widely available at cover price for a second printing? Just make the book available at a reasonable price to readers, not to investor collector types who would not really read the story much because they are afraid to downgrade the condition of their books.jmatt wrote:I don't know if this idea was mentioned in the other thread (the negativity turned me off but people are allowed their own opinions) but how about if the content went for a premium on the first printing but was made widely available at cover price for a second printing? Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
The problem is that this is not a variant. It's an FVL story on the Geomancers made exclusive to collectors.david_albuq wrote:I realized way early on that there would be NO WAY I could collect every variant that VEI put out. How much more reasonable does it get than cover price?erwinrafael wrote:Just make the book available at a reasonable price to readers, not to investor collector types who would not really read the story much because they are afraid to downgrade the condition of their books.

Zero Pink is a perfect analogy: A premium book for collector fans and the same content available for those who don't want to pay extra. I don't recall ever hearing anyone complain about the availability of the Pink.

A Zero Pink is just a variant. But people are constantly complaining about variants, even though they are not made to buy them.jmatt wrote: Zero Pink is a perfect analogy: A premium book for collector fans and the same content available for those who don't want to pay extra. Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
No. Just....no.
A variant? Yeah, whatever. But, actual STORY CONTENT being made intentionally rare and exclusive? Nope. I'm a digital customer. So, they apparently don't want me reading it.
I love you Valiant. I want to support you. I like giving you my money.
If you don't want to sell me your product? Sorry, I hate it has to be like this, but....it's a pirates life for me.

Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
This book has garnered VEI some attention where they might not have gotten lots of attention.
So I'm for it.
I'm about 99% sure that those who'd like to read it will be able to. Maybe not right away, but it will happen.

Re: Legend of the Geomancer Opinion Poll
Actually both options 1 & 4 apply. No problem for me, but will reinforce how badly my LCS fits with modern theories on comic sales. Even if it would be practical to return 24 copies, which it is not from Sweden, they still would not do that. No way they would order copies they know will not sell. And I like them. So option 4 also applies.

Similar situation in the UK. A poor decision that VEI seem to be making by doing this it seems.magnusr wrote:Actually both options 1 & 4 apply. I'm not in need to get this right away. So what's all this rush. I'm certain there will be ways to get the story down the line.
