Dreamworks owns Gold Key and Defiant characters
I recently discovered that DreamWorks Animation acquired Classic Media, which means the Gold Key and Defiant characters are owned by DreamWorks now.

Interesting. I am guessing Dreamworks wanted something else that sit in the same portfolio.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Looks like for the TV show maybe? Archie is its own thing as a publisher isn't it?vikingspawn wrote:I didn't know they had Archie too:

The ownership issues are more complicated than that. When DreamWorks purchased Classic Media, Classic owned some IPs outright and others were licenses only. Classic split from Random House several years ago and Random House actually owns some of the IPs, but licensed them to Classic for certain media.

Yeah. I believe when the DW purchase went down we figured out that DW now owns Turok outright, but only own the licenses for Solar & Magnus. Those two are still owned by Random House.leonmallett wrote:Ouch! The labyrinthine connections of media businesses.BugsySig wrote:The ownership issues are more complicated than that. As for Defiant...no clue, but last I heard they were owned by Random House, not Classic Media.
If they were all owned by the same group, that would be interesting. There are a few Defiant IPs with potential like Warriors of Plasm.
Imagine if VEI was to buy the rights to Gold Key and Defiant one day...Jim Shooter would probably burst into flames.

I think I read some time back that Archie comics did not own Archie and only leased him.vikingspawn wrote:I didn't know they had Archie too:
