Recomendations?
I've been out of comics for a while, and I've recently been thinking about wasting some mon- ahem - picking up a few new titles. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations as I have no clue what's even out there right now.
To give an idea of my tastes I've always liked Valiant (obviously, though just VH1) Vertigo, and Spider-Man. I've enjoyed what I've seen of Untimate Spider-Man, but that's about the only current book I know anything about.
So that being said any recomendations?

OK, seriously then. Here is my Marvel zombie recommendation list.
Ultimate Everything. I get them all, and they're usually the first books I read.
New Avengers, Iron Man and Captain America. It's nice to see the meat of Marvel's lineup being done so well.
Daredevil. The new peak of this series, IMO blows away anything Miller did.
Marvel Knights Spidey and FF. The FF started slow, but I prefer each of these over their regular series.
Punisher. This has been a very rough series for a long time now, but it has a comfortably gritty violence to it.
And Conan. Not Marvel, but what a great read by Busiek every month.
I'd say Pulse, too, if it came out more often than once in a while.

Not sure of the issue #'s, but if you like satire, Garth Ennis really did a hillarious number on Woverine late in the Punisher run he was doing before they rebooted with the MAX series. If you ever even remotely felt Wolvie to be an over-used, over-abused character, this 3 issue (i think) run is for you.
Scene: Logan and Frank are surrounded by hundreds of well-armed midgets:
Logan: You got a plan, Castle?
Frank: Yeah. (takes .12 and blasts Wolvies face off, revealing a shinny admantium skull underneath)
Logan: GHHAAAAAAA!!!!!!
I just kinda goes down-hill from there . . . for Wolvie

Yup. And they thought Wolvie was "one of them" because of his height.
I know a lot of people don't care for Ennis but I loved Preacher, even won one of the signed scripts from the letter's page by imitating Arse-face himself on tape. Of course, the booze helped.

I even loved Ennis' work on Hellblazer, but I couldn't stand what he did with Shadowman. And then infinitely wise Acclaim decided to use that version of Shadowman as the basis for their video game. Doh! I'd complain to them, but, uh, they're bankrupt.

Very few people on this planet would write the kinda story where Wolvie goes zerk on a thousand migdets because they identify with him . . . then follow it up with the Steamroller scene:
Castle: (thinking): Thanks to that ridiculous healing thing, he'll live through this. He'll wish he didn't, but he'll live.
Logan: GAHHHAAAAHHHH!!!! CASTLE! YOU'RE A DEAD MAN!
BWAHAAHAAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Re: Recomendations?
From Vertigo - I'm currently reading Y- The Last Man & Fables, both of which are good and well collected so you can catch up quick/cheap.riff13 wrote:I've been out of comics for a while, and I've recently been thinking about wasting some mon- ahem - picking up a few new titles. Also liked Brian Wood's Demo and Couriers - Demo's not been collected yet, but Couriers is only in TPB form
I liked Marvel 1602 as well, although it gets mixed reviews from others. If you like Neil Gaiman and don't mind people messing with established ideas of characters, it's worth reading.
Alan Moore's Promethea is a good read and is collected well.
