I see you described this book as NM/NM+, but in your picture it looks as if the book has about 14 spine creases, some of them color breaking, I was just wondering if mabey it was just a bad picture. It could just be the way the camara was set up, or mabey you mixed up the discription when you said "Only one CGC graded at 9.6, none at 9.8 - this book has a chance. Definitely NM/NM+ in my opinion."

I agree that issue definitely has some spine issues. Calling this NM/Mint would not be right...

Calling it NM is questionable. Calling it a 9.8 canidate well you know.

I just checked out the listing. You were being kind in your first post. It looks like someone rolled the comic longitudinally, it has so many spine creases.

This is why I hate buying from ebay. My search for a decent copy of Manhattan Projects #1 was so frustrating I just settled for a VF/NM copy that of course was NM/M on ebay. 5 different transactions before I got one I could stand. I don't know how you guys that are much more picky than I am about grading are ever happy with something from ebay. Helps that this comic has a dark cover, so the defects show up better in scans.

I hope this is a picture of the wrong copy for sale (Shadowman Vol. 3 #4), otherwise you're grading is really off. facepalm

I appreciate your replies. I will check that book again and see if I need to change my description. Definitely not trying to fleece anybody. When I looked at the book, it looked great in my opinion. My scanner may not have pictured it well. I will examine the book this evening after work and take your comments into consideration. Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention.

A rule of thumb that has always worked for me regarding eBay grading...

Whatever condition the seller states the book to be in, automatically deduct one full grade. I have talked myself out of many auctions with this and I know it has saved me money and many, many headaches.

If you're a sincere seller then you need to update those auctions.

#4 is at best VF ish....
#5 is better but still has about 5 or 6 stress marks easily visible on the back cover...

Neither book is 9.6 or 9.8

The black covers on this series make 9.6/9.8 candidates quite challenging.

Clark, we'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say maybe you're unsure with your grading. Although a lot of sellers are careless with their descriptions, it's not a good habit to be careless with. Saying a book is 9.6, when it's closer to a 8.0, will cause you some serious grief.

I really appreciate the input. I am new to comic collecting, so I am still getting this grading thing down. I went back and looked at the book and I agree it does have a few spine creases that I missed. It looks better in person than on the scan, but y'all are right that it's not 9.8. It's still a nice comic in my opinion. I have changed my listing to reflect this.

Thanks for helping me out, I really don't want to be the poster boy for ebay over-grading. I mark that I accept returns on all the auctions I do because I want buyers to be satisfied with what they buy from me. Again, thanks for the constructive criticism. I will be more careful in the future.
