Re: New Shadowman
Pretty moist about it.
Although I was a fan of the Turok games, it was Shadowman on N64 that led me to Valiant. I would have never known about any of this if it weren't for dropping $10 on just the cartridge (a no-no in my book; I like to keep a very complete collection, so something it's rare for me to pick up something without a manual or case) based solely on the cover.
While I like the darker versions better, even the VH1 book was great. This new version looks like it will be darker than the first run but still comic-booky.
The art looks sick and I'm interested in the possibilities presented in the previews.

It is still difficult for me to swallow when I hear someone say, "even the VH1 book was great.". Listen, I am thrilled that you are here. It is just a refreshing perspective not often heard on this board.KXXX wrote:Pretty moist about it.

About the same for me. Shadowman wasn't one of my favorites in the VH1 days and he seems like the type of characxter that is hard to do "right."

Shadowman was my absolute favorite. Still is. He is a character that is hard to get "right" and Bob Hall was the only person to ever do so.SJS4 wrote:Heath wrote:50% excited. 50% nervous.

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Re: New Shadowman
I like the costume better than any version of Shadowman so far. I was never a terribly big fan of the original past Unity. I thought he had the most interesting Unity chapters of any title, but I lost interest after that. Always found Master Darque annoying. That being said, even though it's early, so far I like the new versions of the characters better than the old ones already and I'm sure Shadowman will be no different. I'm not familiar with Justin Jordan, but Patrick Zircher is an A-list artist if there ever was one. Can't wait to add another Valiant title to my pull list.

Re: New Shadowman
I often find myself liking subsequent iterations of things more than the originals. It's not intentional, I swear. Post-Danzig Misfits, post-Tarja Nightwish and the remake of Straw Dogs are a few that come to mind immediately. I also love to slip in the fact that Monster Magnet (any Marvel or DC fans owe it to themselves to look into the lyrics, which often include somewhat obscure comic characters... Brother Power, anyone?) is my favorite band, and every cover they've done is better than the original.kevinbastos wrote:It is still difficult for me to swallow when I hear someone say, "even the VH1 book was great.". As for VH1 vs Acclaim... I entered into Valiant with Shadowman the game. I was enthralled with the story: a mashup of Vodun/Voodoo and Christian mythology, a gruesome serial killer hacking up bodies in search of 'the still-beating organ of the soul' and a dimension where everyone goes where they die had me talking about that game to everyone with ears. I've read all of Vol. 3 and the first 8-10 (still need 14 and 19) of Vol.2.. While I'm not sure which of these versions is more related to the story in the game, I'm certain that the game remains my favorite story. The Deadside books were awesome, Darque Passages and Master Darque were a bit much and Turok/Shadowman was awesome just because of what it was. I'm glad Vol 3 didn't continue with the proposed vampire

VH1 Shadowman simply wasn't what I was used to. I liked it, probably more than the other VH1 books at times, but it was more comic-booky than the later stuff. Oh and Yearbook bugged me.
I'll agree that overall Valiant was better than Acclaim. Turok was a close one, and the one-off Harbinger was great. The first X-O made me gag (that's where I stopped, although I'll certainly get around to the rest at some point) and I haven't the heart to do more than flip through the 'Solar' stuff. Rant done.

I thought Shadowman mk 1 was awesome though I never did finish the series, I did enjoy the 30 or so issues I did read. I read Mk 2 also I believe(Ennis) I enjoyed that, I am eagerly awaiting the release of Shadowman, Shadowman, Harbinger, X-O were my favourites 20 years ago, so I am excited about it.

Re: New Shadowman
Visually I am Distraught by the new ShadowMan so far, the covers are horrible. The Fact that he's not a Jazz player is also suprising and kinda a let down. He has the same name but that's about it so far. Hopefully the writing will pull me in..

Re: New Shadowman
That's not to say I DON'T enjoy Danzig, I just liked the Graves stuff better due to the clearer vocals and cleaner sound. After that, though... nah.Dr. Solar wrote:Ok, I stopped there.KXXX wrote:I often find myself liking subsequent iterations of things more than the originals. It's not intentional, I swear. Anxious for the new, certainly a different course, but then, it has to be. Now, NewOrder without Peter Hook? Nah....

Re: New Shadowman
Saw the new costume.
Looks like an Ultimates version with the side padding, or like a HardCorps outfit.
What do I think of the new SM.

I am a fan of the original Shadowman, no question about it. BUT, I will tell you I enjoyed the hell out of the Garth Ennis run on Shadowman, the hell with the video game, it was much darker than the original and much cooler. I still think they should bring him back Mike LeRoi in some capacity. Either way, I am trying to keep an open mind on this new Shadowman. I will definitely be picking this title up in the future and hope that this is a home run like the other books.

I'm pretty much going into hibernation until November so this book will come sooner ....

So wait... was that a 'no' on the game? Very similar character to the one Ennis started.carter3175 wrote:I am a fan of the original Shadowman, no question about it. Yes sir that was a no on the game. I did not care for N64. I do love and respect the character without question.
