@TheMarrowMan

@ValiantComics @robertvenditti @carynord @dinesh_s I read X-O Manowar about 30 or 40 times yesterday! Thanks for the best comic since '96!!

@robertvenditti

@TheMarrowMan That has to be the record! Glad you felt it was worth multiple reads

I love some of the departures from the original book. The baby, the nature of the armor, the aliens being different. I like that there is more character work / building even in an action filled first issue.

The story flowed very well. The one spot where Aric's father kind of took a back seat to him when asked to talk some reason into him pulled me out of the story a bit, but that was a part of establishing how headstrong the character is.

I've seen some complaints online on the coloring. Before I saw those complaints, I noticed it as well. The B&W art did look alot cleaner than the colored pages. Take a look at the double page spread for instance. The coloring didn't do the pencils and inks on that page justice. This is understandable for a first issue though. I'm sure it will be worked out over the next few issues. Edit - I just looked over some of the pages again. I guess it could be the inks darkening things up. I love Gaudiano, but he's a bit of an odd choice on this book for me. His darker, almost noirish style of inking would suit something like Bloodshot better than this book. A great inker, but his style is..... darker than I'd like on x-o.
Mmm, the ink is heavy but many of the panels are at night or inside the Vine ship. I thought it was appropriate for the lighting. Color looked good to me, as did the splash page. :twocents:

Oh, it looked good for sure, but the B&W of that page was stunningly excellent.

Now I have to hunt down a b&w image of that page... :D

maybe they should try the uninked style like what they did to Nord's art in Conan?

A variant version like this would be off the hook! I thought that after my post. The inks are not bad btw. Them pencils were amazing though!

Went to my local Hastings yesterday and they had four copies All four were pretty beat up for a new release. Each one had two big dents on the cover as if someone placed a heavy object on it. I thumbed through a few pages and it looked good, but in the end I didn't buy it. I'm in a bit of a minimalist phase and don't want to add more clutter to my limited space.

And since Valiant is charging the full cover price for a digital download, it looks like I'll be missing the relaunch of the VU.

The price will probably fall at time goes by... so you can enjoy the relaunch of the VU later, like I generally do with video games. I'm still on Playstation 2. :D

That's what I was thinking. Right now all of my back issue comics are in two different residences due to limited space in my apt. Who knows if I'll get a house in the next couple years. I do want to read them, but can't at the present :?

I've been away for over a year due to my recuperation from back surgery and personal family issues. I want to sincerly thank you Dino and everyone at Valiant for making good in the return of our beloved universe. This not only a victory for us fans, but a VALIANT VICTORY as a whole. I've just started my mini hoard already which I've poseted on twitter moon77@elvampiro77 and facebook....Everyone please stay safe and enjoy your day with family and your Valiant Books!!!!
