Comic Cubes
Comic Cubes.
Incredibly awesome. I want them.
The Pricing is a bit ludicrous though. They are basically made out of Ikea Build-A-Furniture materials, which would probably come to 15 - 20 bucks a pop if they were ever carried at retail.

Yup... hell you could do it with a miter saw using 2x4 sheets of MDF if you were really inclined. It's just a matter of making square, replicable cuts and adding hardware to the cubes. It's not hard, but truthfully unless that stuff is your hobby most people aren't going to take the time (myself included).depluto wrote:You could probably hire a carpenter for less to customize something (depending on how many you wanted).
Either way, I wouldn't pay what they are asking. But they are pretty awesome.

I did more digging around and the Comic Cubes are made out of particle board. Like those cheap desks and book shelves and stuff you can get at WalMart. There is no way I'd pay their asking price for that.
I would go with 3/4" MDF minimum. MDF is the same concept as particle board - both are particles of wood glued together - but MDF is denser, stronger, and more resistant to sagging.
Of course, 3/4" baltic birch plywood would be an even better, stronger, more durable, and more attractive material but that could get pricey.

I agree (as both my posts in this thread pointed out...)Heath wrote:I did more digging around and the Comic Cubes are made out of particle board. Like those cheap desks and book shelves and stuff you can get at WalMart. There is no way I'd pay their asking price for that.
