Ancient Artifacts
I know that many of us here branch out our knowledge to other areas of collecting. Is anyone into ancient Roman or Greek stuff? Anyone ever touched on Roman or Greek coins, books or artifacts that ranging from 100 BC to maybe 500 AD?
The books are typically a fortune, but you'd be amazed what some of the authentic ancient coins can cost - they were made in such surplus that you can "just have one" for a few bucks now and again.
I've been buying some stuff and am eager to see who else dabbles....

Ancient Greek Coin, Presumably from the Sidon mints | Circa 3rd century a.d.siren3-4 wrote:do you have any pics ?
Galley Side
Torch Side
Verification: I'm having problems with this one. I find various references to the galley face of the coin, but I can't find much that pairs the galley up to the torch on the opposing side. Great reference here. Maybe this is Roman?
Ancient Greek Coin | This one is incredible. Verified 48 B.C. to 27 B.C.!!
Torch & Stag Side
Tribute to Artemis (Goddess of the Hunt) Side
Verification: Taken from Richard Plant's "Greek Coins and Their Identification", although I'm not sure why the referenced year is 1467.. clearly these coins are before that. I'm considering buying the actual book so I can figure out why that date is associated with this drawing.

Dude. Awesome post. Thank you! I had a thought... I'm thinking that if I placed these in a case with some silica packets, then I'd be good. From that article, it sounds like moisture catalyzes the copper decay. Silica packets absorb moisture like you wouldn't believe, so maybe that will protect these in a coin case or something?
