Today we launched ComicsThatDontSuck.com, a new site where users can post links to news stories, reviews, webcomics, release information, etc. and others can vote on them and comment.
Submitted stories land first in the upcoming pile.They need a certain number of minimum votes to make it to the home page and the “Published” tab. Visitors to the site can also post comments on the stories, share them with friends on FaceBook and email them to others.
The idea is to have a place that’s more than a catalog or a list of links. I want ComicsThatDontSuck.com to be a place where people can find new print and web comics and graphic novels and have some confidence that they won’t be wasting their time and money on crap.
Take any large pool of creative output and most of it will be utter garbage -- Movies, comics, hamburgers, shoes, whatever. How do you cut through the garbage to get to the roses? How do you separate new stories from press releases? That’s where we come in. It’s hands off, let the fans vote, let them fight it out. Somebody will see something someone else has voted up and respond themselves by voting it up or down. Maybe they hadn’t heard of it before at all, so they go and check it out then come back and vote -- or comment. It’s democracy (or lightly moderated mob rule) at its best.
