I had a nice talk with Brandon Deenan of Arrden and several discussions with Jason Goodman of Atlas at the show (as some of you know I interviewed them for Scoop right after the announcement), and at the end of the discussion with Jason he gave me a set of t-shirts with the color covers on them. :thumb:

For the record, really think Grim Ghost could be awesome and suspect that Phoenix will prove likewise. The fact that they're getting Steve Niles on Wulf and someone like Jim Krueger on board is good.

Hadn't heard this. Do you have a link to your interview, JC? Thanks.

Let me know what you think. Obviously the news about JMD leaving Ardden hit after the interview, but otherwise it's fairly current.

Excellent interview! Here's a quote I found interesting.

"This is a major re-launch....the biggest one in decades, as far as I'm concerned." :hm:

Well, as some one who has perhaps engaged in a bit of hyperbole myself, I think the comment is understandable. 8-)

Of course only history will establish its correctness.

Glad you like the interview. That week's Scoop had a ton of Atlas-Seaboard stories:

Thanks for those links, JC. Just read 'em all! Very enjoyable stuff, capable of getting one warmed up for the new Atlas books, and you're right, an excellent market report by Doug Sulipa. I see he opened his first comic book store in 1974. I'm an old-time comic seller myself, having bought into a comic book store in 1978 and started a sole-proprietorship comic book store in 1980.

Glad you liked 'em. And Doug has always done good market reports.

When i spoke to Rich Emms of Arrden a few weeks back he said they were in talks with some big names like, Niles but i never pass much of this info as you just never know :)
He was just off to the NY show and pretty darn excited.
Gail Simone was thrown into the conversation too, so we shall see.

Seeing as how I have new Atlas books in my hands, what are we going to do with the Atlas/Seaboard sets ? As reading these new books, they do not take off when they left off. They take off in current times (so far), so I am thinking we keep Atlas/Seaboard the way it is and have a good time collecting and reading some new comics.

On the back page it appears that most of the Atlas titles are going to be doing a relaunch. And I list:

The Grim Ghost
Phoenix
Iron Jaw
The Hands of the Dragon
The Destructor
Tiger Man
The Scorpion

Keep the Atlas/Seaboard still in the Dead Universe or is it 'back' ?

Thoughts ?

As far as i am concerned the old Atlas is a DU and nothing they produce can change that.
They are a nice little set to complete and i doubt is possible or sensible to attempt to make the new characters share continuity with the old.

So they're not doing a reboot of the characters, but keeping the previous continuity and just leaping forward to modern times?

These look like new versions of the old characters, new names etc. I will need to do a real sit down read of these... but I think I agree with Draco's statement above. I believe we should go with a consensus about how to deal with this... honestly, I hate 'losing' a DU just because the characters are being used again. :?

Yeah i hear what you are saying here.
Though to compare i consider the Milestone to be a DU and that will never change. Not to mention Wildstorm who may still use some of the WS characters in the DCU, but to me once the last books come out WS is dead.
Each to their own, but Atlas/Seaboard is DU.

I actually think this is going to work.

If they try to get too big too fast then no, but slowly does it.

Mike Grell named editor-in-chief at Ardden!

Original story:
http://www.newsarama.com/comics/ardden- ... 01207.html

Little bit of my take:
http://blog.newsok.com/nerdage/2010/12/ ... rtainment/

I'm a Mike Grell fan, so I like this news, especially if it means he'll contribute to some of the books.

Grell is an interesting choice. Not a bad one, just interesting.

He's a real gun nut, so he's okay in my book.
