Not possible to get down to one single run after reading solidy for over 30 years, but ill think on this tomorow on the market and come up with some contenders for sure.
Be interesting to see what people come up with.

Not sure what to expect from people here as the usual Sandman, Spawn etc might be omitted, lol.

Yeah, I was thinking it's not likely people will be able to narrow it down to one. Maybe the top few that come to mind will do... :thumb:

Looks like Engelhart's run on Detective was #469-476. :hm: Marshall Rogers as the artist didn't hurt this run, that's for sure. It was reprinted in 1999 as Batman: Strange Apparitions, which isn't easy to find.

As a TMNT fan, I really enjoyed David Sim's Cerebus: High Society. Many a "holy sh!t! That's funny!" moment reading that. :thumb:

It was funny cause it was true. :|

Also, the 1st 11 issues of TMNT Vol. 1 are amazing. If you can snag a one of the Collected issues, you won't be sorry. So stoked when Vol 4. picked up continuity with Vol 1. Can't wait for Mike and the Tricericons to kick some *SQUEE*. :thumb:

Yeah, that's right, I put Cerebus before the Turtles. Wanna fight about it?

I'm going to go with writers or writer/artist teams here, rather than artists by themselves. I'm not going to name anything like Sandman, Preach, Y, Fables or any of those, or anything from Valiant, as in the first I think those have been spoken of enough and in the second, this isn't the forum for that. I'm not going to mention things like Johns on GL or what Bendis has done with various Marvel books. Newer books aren't going to be listed, either. The books I'm listing will have had their run end at least 5 years ago. Instead, I'm going to list my (sorry) top ten, instead of top five runs that maybe not everyone thinks about.

In no order:

Steven Grant's X, for Dark Horse.

Eric Luke's Ghost, for Dark Horse.

Mike Grell's run on Green Arrow, for DC.

Peter David's first 3 years on Aquaman, for DC, including Time & Tide.

John Ostrander's run on The Spectre, for DC.

James Robinson's run on Starman, for DC.

Ron Marz first two years on Green Lantern, for DC

Waid's run on Ruse, for Cross Gen.

Ton Bedard's Negation, for Cross Gen

Ok, I'm cheating here, but the entire Superman line from the time of his death through the Fall of Metropolis story. There was barely a bad issue in the bunch and so much continuity that the 4 writers involved might as well have been one. Karl Kessel, Louise Simonson, Dan Jurgens & Roger Stern...take a bow.

I know I've missed some things. I know there are books out there that should have been mentioned. I could have listed minseries, which I decided not to unless they tied into regular runs and I avoided newer books or older ones that are highly acclaimed. I did this mainly because I know you guys will list them, eventually, because they've been so spoken about already and because I wanted to shed light on some work that maybe others have forgotten about.

For Sandman, you mean The Wake or Kindly ones? I like Kindly ones and I think The Wake has some tremendously powerful stuff in there, especially with Hob. As for 100 Bullets...yeah, that's a great series. Along with Fables, Y, Preacher & Sandman, it's in my top ten.

Anyone think Valiant's Solar 1-10 belongs in this discussion?

If we are talking shorter runs, Brubaker's cap through or so.

You like the CGW/DHH books? Nice choice, but I still think Ghost & X outdid W2P, although it was a great story, especially when you get the Titan Special as well as the Catalyst & OOTV epilogues.

I still need to read AC and I don't think anything will touch Fables or Sandman.

For continued greatness, I don't see anything touching Sandman or Fables. Maybe Walking dead.

Especially if issues 76-100 keep up the amazing level of the previous arcs. I'd be tempted to put Y the Last Man & 100 Bullets in there, too, except that the 3 we're talking about are just so head & shoulders above everything else, that even other truly great books get left in the dust :thumb:
