Dark Horse Sh!tted on the Gold Key Properties by:Todd Luck wrote:Well since the artwork in Turok #1, which came out on time, looked rushed, and the artwork on Turok #2, which took about six months to come out, looked fantastic, I'm assuming if the same artist is putting out two books in 5 months the art will take a hit.BruceReville wrote:Turok 3 & 4 are only about 5-6 months late as it is and they both could have been sitting completed for who knows how long on the shelf. So I doubt art takes a hit for being released a couple weeks apart, as they have been finished for a while. I am glad that at least they are coming out. At one point it was reported that they wouldn't come out as individual issues at all, but as part of a TPB.Todd Luck wrote:Turok #3 is solicited for next week with #4 scheduled for just a few weeks later. That doesn't even seem possible. I hope the art doesn't take too big a hit. So by October 5 all the current plotlines will be wrapped up and we'll have to wait to see what (if any) new books get solicited starting with comics shipping in December
Dark Horse has just sh!tted all the Gold Key properties.
Where are you getting your information? It took the artist four months to do issue two so I'd be shocked if the pencils have been done for awhile (but anythings possible I suppose). Every single person involved with the project said the remaining issues of the current plotlines would come out. I've never seen any talk of the issues only coming out in trade outside of idle speculaton by fans online.
How did Dark Horse just sh!t all the Gold Key properties?
1) Constant Delays. (Solicited and then .......Solicited again ......rescheduled ......) After the first issues came out it took immediately the second issues went from a month late - two months late - to six months late after the next solicitation and continued.
2) Lack Of Support (Either By Advertising Or Convention Support) - Dark Horse did not even have anyone associated with the Gold Key properties on any of their convention panels. Even when the Magnus TPB came out the only promotion Dark Horse gave it was a tweet on Twitter 7:00 the day before it was suppose to be released. Pretty Lame.
3) Ridiculously Low Print Runs.
I have been looking for the link but there was a story that came out about Turok 3 & 4 were complete but not being released as individual issues but as part of the planned TPB instead. I am still searching for that and once I find it I'll post it.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
DH certainly has made poor decisions with the DK line. Criticizing their promo for the line is valid especially after the first 3-4 issues were published. Lower than expected print runs and difficulties with the artists (Calero on Solar, Rienhold on Mags, and Eduardo on Turok) appeared to cause the publisher to lose interest.
Considering the problems especially with the Turok series, I've no doubt that issues 3 and 4 have been completed otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to update their status with Previews.
However, according to DCBS and Lone Star, Turok 3 is not in stock and may not ship this week. Solar #8 shipped and is in stock.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
Bruce,
I hope that's not the case that Turok 3 and 4 are only being released via the trade. It's still listed on Dark Horse's site for a tomorrow release, in any event. Some of the better new comic sellers on eBay are already selling it, listing it as to be released tomorrow as well.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
It was a couple of months back that I recall seeing that Turok 3 & 4 were going to be released in the trade only - since then Dark Horse could have changed its mind. Still haven't found the link, but with Football happening this weekend and my current medical condition (which is slowly improving BTW) - My mind has been on other things.

Graham Crackers Comics of Chicago lists Dr. Solar coming out today, but not Turok.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
I actually saw Turok #3 at my LCS this morning. There's a new artist James Harren, even though the cover still is crediting Eduardo Francisco. The art is ummm . . . . different.
I didn't pick it up from the LCS since I have a copy from DCBS coming.

yea, the artwork sucks. Looks like it was done in half an hour. No letter columns on both issues either. Solar just has a "Fin" on both stories.kevinbastos wrote:Does different equal crummy?iggy101us wrote:I actually saw Turok #3 at my LCS this morning. Yes. It looks sloppy and sort of manga-ish.kevinbastos wrote:Does different equal crummy?iggy101us wrote:I actually saw Turok #3 at my LCS this morning. There's a new artist James Harren, even though the cover still is crediting Eduardo Francisco. The art is ummm . . . . different.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
I actually kind of liked it. It's more fluid and the action is well done. Definitely a different style from Francisco though. More animation influence and maybe some Jason Pearson.kevinbastos wrote:Does different equal crummy?iggy101us wrote:I actually saw Turok #3 at my LCS this morning. There was a different artist for the first part of Solar 8 too. Not bad, not great, but a solid job not much to complain about. The origin story looks great as usual. It's been said before but if they start with this in Solar 1 it may have turned out different. Although I'm not even sure about that with how incompetent Dark Horse seems.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
The Solar #8 art on the regular story was an improvement.
Turok #3 also had alot less word balloons for a typical Shooter book.
I didn't see one "Hot Ca-Cha."

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
LCB - HAD Solar. Turok next week.
Instead, I bought 62 issues of X-Factor to fill in the run.
$12 total.
I'll be back next week.
I'm going back to read ALL of SOLAR again.
#1 is terrible...
Story voice is fun, but

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
So DH did go with a new artist for Solar #8 as well. Who is the new guy? That means we can expect to see a new artist for Samson 4 also. Unusual that DH continues the stone silence in regards to plans and changes for these books.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
By the way, distribution for Turok 3 is uneven at best. Only 2 of the 4 sources I preordered copies from received their books. Even Lone Star has still not received it as of this morning. On the other hand, Solar 8 appears to have released nationwide.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
New artists aren't a surprise since they're trying to get the books to come out, I'm just shocked they didn't dump all the artists 8 months ago when it was becoming obvious they couldn't get the comics out on anywhere near the "every six week schedule" the books were on.
Comic shops not getting Turok is surprising. We've got every reason to believe if a shop didn't get Turok this week, it'll ship next week, right?

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
This actually isn't a new thing with Dark Horse. One of the things that killed the CGW line was lateness and constantly changing artists for a majority of their line. Ghost & X were about the only titles that were consistent, but every now and then even those would get a real WTF?! treatment.Todd Luck wrote:New artists aren't a surprise since they're trying to get the books to come out, I'm just shocked they didn't dump all the artists 8 months ago when it was becoming obvious they couldn't get the comics out on anywhere near the "every six week schedule" the books were on.
They aren't as bad as some publishers, but on occassion when they get late -- they get really late or just cancel outright.

Talked to the manager at my shop, which didn't get Turok in, and she said it is on her invoice from Diamond next week.
As for Dr. Solar, the lead story was pretty anticlimatic, but i did like the art. The origin story was excellent, but reading the whole issue was just sort of depressing for me.

Re: Dark Horse Gold Key Release Dates
Turok #3 arrived at my shop this week. I have to say the art was distractingly bad. It was so ugly i didn't really take time to read the story well the firs ttime around. After rereading it though, i think it was a very solid issue (art aside) and am hopeful for a strong finish in issue 4.

Got it, too. Any real hope for Turok 4 (along with Samson) on October 4?
WAIT! What? The Occultist 2 is listed for December 14th!
Turok TPB is search-able for January 12, 2012, too.

I could swear that I saw an article very recently that talked about how the Occultist was going to be an ongoing now. Probably no ties to Dark Key.
