Elseworlds

Post by ian_house »

I thought there was a topic discussing DC's Elseworlds but I can't find it using the search (ruddy thing!). If you can find it just chuck it below and ignore this! If not...

Which are the essential elseworlds titles? Which are the most original/did something REALLY different with the franchises?

Gotham by Gaslight is one of my favorite stories, period.

I know Speeding Bullets is considered a top book, for me, it was just ok.

I am always looking for Elseworlds books on the cheap.

Castle of the bat was pretty good.

Batman: Digital Justice while not technically an elseworlds book it was none the less a forerunner to the line and IIRC came out before Batman: Gotham by Gaslight

Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham

JLA: Created Equal

JLA: An Act of God

The Superman/Batman: Generations trilogy

Batman/Dracula

Batman/Dark Joker: The Wild.

Superman-Dark Ages.

I think there was also one where Bruce Wayne got the Green Lantern.

Superman: Kal was cool.

All of the Elseworlds Annuals that I have read have been good as well, especially the Shadow of the Bat annual.

I have the first 2 of the 3 of these books. Once I get the 3rd one, it will move to the top of my reading pile.

I've always avoided that. I hate comics where heroes are sucked into a computer game or vice versa. It just seems so silly (I know super hero comics...).

In Batman: Digital Justice IIRC it's a future where Batman and Joker are computer programs created by Bruce Wayne and the Joker to protect and destroy Gotham City.

Kal's ship crashes in medieval Britain. The twist at the end is really cool if somewhat obvious.

As it should. I have not yet been able to get a copy of the 3rd, but the first two were TOP books.

It's Jim Balent who did the art.

It's part of a series of books that includes Superman's Metropolis and Wonder Woman: The Blue Amazon. There was also originally going to be a "Justice League" follow-up in this style, but it never got through.

This has Batman, Hourman, Dr. Midnite, and many other superheroes as government operatives during World War II. There's a lot of twists and turns to it. While it's called JSA, there's a few JLA-ish things in there, too.
