Surprising Comics
The first release from my small comic book publishing company is just around the corner. Surprising Theater #1 will feature Lloyd Smith's Sgt Freedom, John Helmer's The Leaf, and my character called Skyscraper.
All interior art is finished on the first issue. I just heard from our cover artist, who indicated the cover will be finished in the next day or two. The cover artist is a board member here. I wonder who that could be?
I'll post the cover on our site over at www.surprisingcomics.com as soon as I can, which should be in the next day or two. Content on the site will be increasing as Surprising Theater #1 gets closer to being sent to the printer. The new content will include art, a creator list, and the like.
Work has already begun on issue 2 of Surprising Theater.

The first one will be up on the site in about a week. It will feature Lloyd Smith. Lloyd had a prolific small press publishing company in the 90s on into 2001 or so, and published a number of comics and titles. Blue Moon featured several creators who had worked in the past at the big comic publishers, and some creators who went onto larger companies after Blue Moon. Mostly, I fondly remember Blue Moon for giving creators who had talent a chance to tell their stories. Lloyd is a prolific writer himself, and Surprising Theater #1 will feature his character Sgt Freedom.UnknownTales wrote:Hey, when are the creator interviews supposed to be up? I want to learn about these dudes and how they broke into the industry!!!
Here's the intro to the first Skyscraper story.
Chad Johnston's police officer father designed a suit of armor to fight what he saw as an upcoming crime wave in Phoenix, AZ to be led by the infamous gang leader appropriately named Bad News. The senior Mr. Johnston had intel leading him to believe Bad News had developed a method by which his gang members would soon be flying through the skies of Phoenix. When his father was killed in the line of duty before being able to use the armor, Chad donned the armor himself, becoming the superhero called Skyscraper!

I've asked John Helmer and Lloyd Smith to write intros similiar to this on their characters, The Leaf and Sgt Freedom, respectively, to post on the site.StarBrand wrote:Here's the intro to the first Skyscraper story.

The Leaf
Canada's Greatest Hero!
For three generation’s, The Leaf has been Canada’s Greatest Hero, a heritage passed from father to son, until Michael MacSorly breaks that tradition. When a killer robot assumes the guise of The Leaf in its brutal campaign against crime, a reluctant Michael must take on the mantle of The Leaf from his deceased father and redeem the hero’s now tarnished legacy.
Michael MacSorly’s father fought separatists in the 60’s and his grandfather freed Europe from the Nazi scourge. Now, following his father’s death, Michael has donned the Leaf flight suit to protect the streets of Canada and his father’s good name from a band of out-of-control robots created by his desperate father in the waning days of his life.
