Do you want to see Special Chromium covers for the new line?
Do you want to see any Chromium/Holofoil covers on the upcoming GK3 line of books?
Dark Horse and Bioware released a cool looking Chromium cover Star Wars mini-comic last month as a special giveaway to promote one of thier games. This is the first time i've seen a chromium wrapround cover come back since the '90s. But the end result looks pretty cool up close....
Here's a pic:
(the pic came out a bit blurry but it has an "X-O Manowar #0" issue look/effect to it):
This got me wondering if Dark Horse would go after the idea of producing more Chromium covers for the new books now (for Solar or Magnus).
And if fans would be into buying them...

If you arent aware already how much i think this crap hurts the industry then you are now.
I hate that crap.
However if they feel the need to make it and people feel the need to buy then what can i or we say?
Someone said a while back on one of my rants there is a market for this and they were right.
more often than not they are people who dont actually enjoy comics enought to invest in quality interior over exterior.
If its all about aesthetics then go for it.
The buyers for this are a revolving door, with new fools always coming in, as the old ones wise up and go spend their money on something more suitable to their status symbol based lives.
I still hear people talk about the hype side of comics ( flash covers, incentives etc) at shows etc.
I want to grab them and throttle them until they wake the *SQUEE* up and go spend their money on books by creators who deserve some attention instead.
If they release any of the books in chromium etc ill wait for them in someones 50p box or get them in a collection so im not directly supporting the ordering of them, but as a retailer i have to do what my customers ask for, luckily though most are well trained and leave this truly awful side of the industry well alone.
Rant over.

i dont know if you are careful you can buy a comic and it be a decent investment i mean any Jim lee cover is good and any Kirkman is pretty much a sure thing but foil covers are a bust
back in batman 608 i made a few bucks for sure then justice then cap 25 and then was sinestro corps and next will be blackest night you just have to be careful

I love comics, but i draw a line on what i do to get it (honest).
Fancy covers a suck a** b******t !!!
I always say if the retialers who do more of this than others are either old school in which casse they probably have to due to the sheer size of their customer base, or they are just really lazy *SQUEE* who cannot be arsed to put some effort in to selling comics for their actual purpose which is to be read.
Sure you can read a chromium cover issue, but we all know thats not the point is it.
BUy good comics and tell your customers the truth about the rest of the crap.
You cannot create a collectible by putting a snazzy cover etc.
You can support the industry you proffess to love by doing the right thing its easy, but for some its easier to make money nice and simple with pretty shiney things.

I voted no,if they want to do something special i say make the storys riveting and art great and at the same time keep the print run low especially for key issues, making them worth more.If they do those 3 things and keep them at or below the norm. pricewise they will be among the top of the market, and won't need a gimmick to attract attention.

I agree that the goal shpould be to simply make good quality comics, but i always feel uneasy about small. ltd or allocated print runs etc.comicsyte95 wrote:I voted no,if they want to do something special i say make the storys riveting and art great and at the same time keep the print run low especially for key issues, making them worth more.If they do those 3 things and keep them at or below the norm. pricewise they will be among the top of the market, and won't need a gimmick to attract attention.
Fom a retail perspective that knd of messing aroud is really frustrating i tell ya.
Trying to make something worth more or playing any kind of games to ultimately rasie your prodcuts profile is a dangerous path.
Many times in the past i have been on the wrong end of that kind of stuff and its sould destroying having to tell your olyal customers that they cant have something they have been waiting ages for, simply becasue the publisher/manufacturer wanted some extra noice made about their product.
You always run the risk or hurting some of your fanbase that way.
if you alloctae or limit items somewhere down the line there is a chance it will go *SQUEE* up and some greedy bugger will get more than someone else and thats a harsh way to go.
Good quality and decent access is what we need and im not just talking about new books from VEI here, i mean all publishers shold live by that.

You missed one:Elveen wrote:The 3 most important things in any new comic I am going to buy are:
Story
Price
Art.
In that order.
Availability - ie it is published... *
*This is not intended as a slight to Dark Horse who appear committed to publishing the Gold key heroes in new comic books.
