AZ guys - Howard Harris @ SD

Post by ZephyrWasHOT!! »

Saw Howard Harris (Greg's Comics) for the first time in almost 9 years. Walked into his booth and started looking around, didn't recognize him, and then he started talking about what he had and that voice rang inside my head....I turn around, and I say "Howard....?"

He recognizes me (I was in his store 2-3 times a week for two years, so...) and it's like old time hour. He had shaved off his beard, and apparently lost a considerable amount of weight, which is why I didn't recognize him.

We chat about this and that, and I told him that anyone on the boards that I know lives in the area, I've always told to go visit the store and check him out if they haven't already.

We chatted for about half an hour. It was really nice. He remembered my name after a while.

He told me that ONE OF YOU was offered the Unity Diamonds for $50 each, and you HAGGLED WITH HIM! :o Shame on you, cheapskate!

But yeah, he tells me that there are 3-4 Valiant guys who clean him out every time he gets new stuff in. :) Continuing the tradition, as it were (cause that was MY function from 1997-1999. :thumb: )

Howard Harris is THE ONLY comic book dealer I have EVER dealt with on a regular basis that I felt respected my money and valued me as a customer. He is the ONLY comic book dealer I have EVER dealt with who I didn't feel was always trying to milk me for more, or try and cheat me in some way.

In my dealings with him, he has been honest as the day is long, so if you live in the area, PLEASE support him....it's not hard to do.

What a trip....

I haven't made it out to his store in a few years. Although we're both in the Phoenix metro area, his store's 45 minutes away from my home.
I don't know him well. He's good friends with my friend Robert from Key Comics.
He has a great inventory, to be sure, both old and new.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't me. I don't think i would have said no to that. and I think i would have remembered a diamond trade.

I do remember seeing a 'mis-foiled' Turok #1 for about 4-5$ that i passed on, and them coming back about 2 months later to find it gone. Dang.

He's got the best store in the phx area, IMO. And a nice guy to boot.

I'm pretty sure such praise for a dealer is quite rare. This guy must be a joy to shop with. You know, I've been wanting to visit the Phoenix area for about a month now.

It might have been me about 4 years ago. But at the time they were going for 50-75 each, so of course I tried to get them cheaper.

I don't shop there anymore. Mostly because he had ordered some hard covers that I NEVER asked him to get for me. Said I had to buy those before getting other books. Well that was the last time I was in his store about 2 or 3 years ago now.

He did always pull Valiant for ma and very often would give me first pick of new collections he got in for both Valiant and Gold key. He always was fair with me but that "got to buy it" experience soured me on dealing with him.

Glad to hear there's a good shop out there. I'm moving my opinion up that 90% of all LCS owners/workers are idiots that only read wizard.
