Why are people so stupid...?
I know, I know, a rhetorical question...
And I know I shouldn't insult my customers...
But man, how hard is it to read "INSURANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CGC BOOKS!!!" in an auction description in all caps and bold....? And then ignore it, and send payment without including insurance?
And not just one customer....this is like the 5th or 6th in a month.
Don't get it.
God, some people are obnoxiously stupid.
I wish I didn't care. I truly do.

1. No. I cannot KNOW how much the insurance is going to be until the auction ends. If an item ends for $197, insurance is $2.60. If it ends for $255, it's $4.60. If it ends for $67, it's $2.15.Unblessed wrote:![]()
have to ask two stupid questions: do you tell them how much insurance is and do you refuse payment if they don't include it?
2. I do not have the option to refuse payment. I could simply refund them, but people tend to get REALLLLY *SQUEE* when you refund their entire payment.
So, I just tell them to send the additional payment, plus the additional paypal fee, to my paypal account. It's really lame.
It's just so damn obvious. It's not effing rocket science.

In these cases i send a polite reminder telling them i have made a refund and reinvoiced them.
i have only had one rude comment in over 50 YES !!! 50 occasions yhis has happened and that was before they realised it was because of an error they made.

Yeah but I don't think it automatically calcs. it for you based on the winning bid price; insurance still needs to be inputed.Fanboy375 wrote:Thats what I was just thinking!!!Jrdawg wrote:Isn't there a way to set up the auction so its required of them to pay insurance?
If a bidder doesn't read the auction carefully, they may just input the wrong amount.

There is a way to automatically require insurance, but, AS FAR AS I KNOW, you have to put in the amount BEFOREHAND....meaning, you have to know what the auction will sell for before listing it.Chuck wrote:Yeah but I don't think it automatically calcs. it for you based on the winning bid price; insurance still needs to be inputed.Fanboy375 wrote:Thats what I was just thinking!!!Jrdawg wrote:Isn't there a way to set up the auction so its required of them to pay insurance?

IF THERE IS A WAY to FORCE insurance based on the final bid amount, I don't know about it, and would LIKE to, if anyone has the info.
But, ya know....how EFFING DIFFICULT IS IT to read "INSURANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CGC BOOKS!!!"...?????
Idiots.
And, to add insult to injury, ONE of them sent a reply saying "you didn't include that in the checkout system (PRIOR TO ME SENDING AN INVOICE, MIND) or I would have added it (despite the fact that he SAW it was required, and FAILED to add it HIMSELF) You really should learn how to do that."
Which was just rude.
I replied, as sweetly as possible, that I cannot add insurance BEFORE the auction ends, and that he KNEW insurance was required, so why didn't he include it HIMSELF??
ANSWER: BECAUSE HE WANTED SOMETHING FOR NOTHING.
Another one (the Primer #2 guy!!) said "that's ok, insurance isn't necessary...just signature confirmation"....which ALSO isn't free. Flat Rate Priority is $9.80....I charged him $10 in shipping....so he wants Sig Conf for free....?
These people. I swear to God.

Good question. It shouldn't be but who knows?BloodOfHeroes wrote:i see several auctions that say, "Wait until I send an invoice before paying." If I win 'em, I wait to get an invoice. Simple enouogh.
Is there some reason that that would be "against eBay rules"?
I usually receive an invoice before sending payment since nearly all my ebay purchases are won via esnipe. Normally, I don't learn the results of the auction anyway until the next day so the timing works out well.

Once a collection gets to $10,000 or $20,000 in "replacement value",caniac wrote:This may be a dumb question... But how common is getting insurance on collectibles, as opposed to just regular home insurance?
your normal home insurance probably won't cover it.
(If it does, you may have to keep an updated inventory on file with them.)
According to CollectInsure.com:
In most cases, your homeowners’ is designed to cover personal property and is not nearly enough to protect your collection. Homeowners insurance may:
-Limit contents coverage to a percent of the total value of your home (50 - 70%)
-Limit the amount they’ll pay for theft of valuable items like silver, crystal, guns, stamps, and paper documents
-Not cover losses due to flood, hurricane and earthquake
-Be based on actual cash value rather than the collectible value of the item(s)
-Require you to schedule all items (keep an updated itemized list on file)

If you want to make USPS insurance required, the dollar amount you enter on the setup screen is charged per $50.00 increment. It used to be $1.65 but just went up to $1.70. So if you enter $1.70 in the amount and the auction closes at $100, the customer will be automatically charged $3.40. and on and on etcetera, up to $500.
FYI, customers paying with paypal have automatic buyer protection. Insurance is really to protect the seller.
