How many DU's & Defuncts (DFT) can you count ?

Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

Uncle $crooge comics definitely exist in a universe, but it's far from dead :thumb:

(Don Rosa's Life and Times of $crooge McDuck is great reading 8-) )
I like the ducks books, myself. Barks and Rosa stories are the greatest.

I just mentioned Gladstone, because I believe they are finally done. They did come back from the dead once, though.

Gladstone (again, I doubt Disney is something you want, but...)
Greater Mercury Comics (Grips and others)
Hall of Heroes (Creed, Cyberfrog)
Harrier
High Impact (Double Impact)

Here's a few more attempts, pick which ones you like.
Eagle is good as i collect them anyway bu they are all reprints of 2000as material.
Entity is under Malibu.
Fantaco. I have some gore shriek and will check the rest.
Gladstone is still going :o
Greater Mercury eh :o
Hall of Heroes. Is that smutty crap mainly ?
Harrier. pending
High Impact. Scary bad girl nonsesnse at its best. gotta love that crap

I think you are confusing Entity with Eternity, which is under Malibu. Two separate companies.

Gladstone is done. I think you might be thinking of Gemstone. Gemstone is the current comic company for the Disney books, I believe they are owned by the same folks who own Diamond Distributors. Ah, probably doesn't matter anyway, because Disney probably isn't what you had in mind. Here's the wikipedia entry for Gladstone, which mentions their demise: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladstone_Publishing

Hall of Heroes is not smutty stuff at all, as far as I know. Creed was pretty mainstream for a while, had crossovers with the Turtles and such. The titles later went to Lightning Comics after Hall of Heroes stopped publishing.

I have a couple of Hall of Heroes books. I should take a look at them sometime.

Is Harris still putting books out?

Ok, i just updated and its getting pretty big on the DFT side of things.

I think i will definitely make the DU's the priority wants list.

I guess in about six months i can put up the mother of all wants lists here.

Well, there's always going to be a lot more defunct companies than Dead Universes, because only a small percentage of companies choose to do the shared continuity thing. I wouldn't be surprised if you've already got 99% of all the "Dead Universe" lines listed.

I found a couple sub-imprint lines under Epic Comics/Marvel:

Shadowline (DU, I'm assuming)
Heavy Hitters (thought it was a DU, but looks more like a line of creator owned properties)

Now I did like shadowline, which is definitely a DU.

Our good friend Mr Lapham, however did do an absolutely storming mini series recently of Terror, who came from the Shadowline books, also having his own book for about 13 issues.

Its goes in.

Heavy hitters is much like the Barkerverse stuff i guess.

How about the Marvel UK line from I believe the early 90's (Deaths Head , War Heads) You don't see Marvel really using any of these characters other than maybe Deaths Head(I believe they used in WWH last summer) :thumb:

Heavy Hitters had some really big names creators (Peter David, George Perez, Chuck Dixon, Ron Lim, Howard Chalkin, and Joe Kubert just to name a few) and some of their stuff was really good.
I highly recommend buying: Sachs and Violins, Pinhead vs. Marshal Law: Law in Hell, Psycho-Naughts, Lawdog, Feud, Midnight Men, Dragon Lines, Dragon Lines II, and War Man and see what I mean.

Marvel"s dead imprints and dead universes
Marvel Razorline-Line of horror-based comics created by Clive Baker most notable for the series EctoKid which had the writing of The Wachowski Brothers and debut of artist Steve Skarose.

Marvel UK Comics-Original UK characters stories reprinted in the US there also might have been some new material created for this line.

Marvel UK-Frontier Comics-Mature reader creator owned Marvel UK characters.

Marvel Max Comics-Marvel's most recent mature reader line

Marvel Star Comics-A line of licensed properties aimed for younger reader including series like Care Bears, Muppet Babaies, ALF and The Pirates of Dark Water (note: series like Transformers, G.I. Joe, Rom: The Space Knight, and Star Wars were NOT part of the Star Comics line).

Marvel Epic Comics-A line of creator-owned comics

Marvel Epic Comics-Shadowline-A very small line of comics that were in a shared universe.

Marvel Epic Comics-Heavy Hitters-Marvel's 90's revival attempt for Epic Comics with some new some high profile creators.

Marvel New Universe-Marvel's 25th birthday was an attempt to create a
"universe outside your window" in someways a rough draft of Pre-Unity Valiant.

Marvel 2099-New versions of Marvel's present day characters in the year 2099.

The only non-Marvel dft and DU I can think of right now is
Dreamwave Press
Gorilla Comics

I totally agree dude, some great creators and some really obscure titles that were probably over looked due to the overall amount of product at that time. I remember some really good books here.
Marvel"s dead imprints and dead universes
Marvel Razorline-Line of horror-based comics created by Clive Baker most notable for the series EctoKid which had the writing of The Wachowski Brothers and debut of artist Steve Skroce( fixed that for ya). :thumb:
Again i agree and will add these all to the list too.
Marvel UK Comics-Original UK characters stories reprinted in the US there also might have been some new material created for this line.
These early seventies to early nineties reprints before Marvel Uk folded had their moments indeed.
There were very few original stories though, with Captain Britain being the first and also first in full colour ( well to begin with anyway).
Then later on Cap Britain was revamped (MSH # 377) in the last of the good Marvel Uk titles Marvel Super Heroes. This was magazine format and 10 issues into the Cap Britain revamp Alan Moore took over and the strip jumped and skipped to a few other (Daredevils & MSH v2 & finally Cap Britain Mag) mag sized reprint books with the Cap Britain books being the only original strips.

The first two Marvel Uk titles Mighty World of Marvel ( later changed to Marvel Comic & then eventually the mag format MSH) and Spiderman Weekly were the lynchpin of Marvel Uk, but 99.9% reprints.

There must have been over a hundred other titles in the 20 odd years they published but it was poor mans reprints in black and white or two tone colours, sometimes offering colour centre pages and nice oversized cover repro posters and even the odd original poster, some of which were pretty cool.
I even buy some old issues out of 25p bins for the posters :)

In the late 80's Marvel Uk put out Deaths Head ( transformers UK spin off) and Dragons Claws which were all new material in US format which was interesting but not so great in comparison with the US stuff to be fair, although both books had a nice following and still do.

Marvel Uk had a really bad attempt at emulating the US stuff with a Deaths Head revamp and ongoing series(which was only good to average after the revamp mini).

They ranged from Hells Angel (early Carlos Pacheco), later renamed Dark angel after apparently being sued by the actual Hells Angels (madness abound) to motormouth, Warheads, Death Metal, Death Wreck, Death3(all Deaths Head Rip offs x-overs), Killpower (Motormouth spin off)& Deaths Head, Gun Runner, Cyberspace 3000 (Galactus), Super Soldier( not the Van Damme movie), Mystech wars( Superb Brian Hitch art) and many more.

Again all in US format, but mainly dog crap on a stick with as many Wolverine, Ghost Rider and Cable appearances as humanly possible.

Dont get me wrong there were some good issues amongst the crapolla but 95 % poop.

Marvel UK-Frontier Comics-Mature reader creator owned Marvel UK characters.
Most definitely weird all the way, but no chance ( :hope: ) of getting released again, so they go on the list.
Marvel Max Comics-Marvel's most recent mature reader line
Still going strong and always enjoyable ( well 95%)
Marvel Star Comics-A line of licensed properties aimed for younger reader including series like Care Bears, Muppet Babaies, ALF and The Pirates of Dark Water (note: series like Transformers, G.I. Joe, Rom: The Space Knight, and Star Wars were NOT part of the Star Comics line).
On the list.
You try getting half of these in the UK and then try again in high grade. Aint happening dude.
Marvel Epic Comics-A line of creator-owned comics
Have to leave this as they might do it again, which makes sense and it really just a creator owned line of books.
Marvel Epic Comics-Shadowline-A very small line of comics that were in a shared universe.
On the list :thumb:
Marvel Epic Comics-Heavy Hitters-Marvel's 90's revival attempt for Epic Comics with some new some high profile creators.

On the list :thumb:
Marvel New Universe-Marvel's 25th birthday was an attempt to create a
"universe outside your window" in someways a rough draft of Pre-Unity Valiant.
How could it not be :thumb:
Marvel 2099-New versions of Marvel's present day characters in the year 2099.
:thumb:

Dreamwave Press
Dreamwave as in Pat lee and crew?

If so a difficult one as Transformers will never die and they didnt do much else. The stuff they did do i have mass multiples of in my 25p bins

Gorilla Comics

Not sure how to deal with imprints inside creator owned companies such as Image etc, but im gonna add Gorilla as they were from a good batch of creators indeed.

So cheers for that dude, thats some good talking points and helped me get a massive rant off which is always good.

Gorilla Comics did release Shockrocket, Empire, and Crimson Tears
(I know it George Perez's Crimson something) I think DC or Dark Horse reprinted Stockrocket and DC did publish Empire. Perez tried to
get Crimson whatever but it's second publisher went under before he could finish it too.

IMO Charlton needs to go on the list as they had some GREAT books for back then. Just my two cents as I have some VERY good memories from those books.

I also want to mention Tower Comics as they did a fine run of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents and a few others related to the team:

Tower Comics (1965-1969)
Dynamo (4 issues, a THUNDER Agents spin-off)
Fight the Enemy (3 issues, war title)
NoMan (2 issues, a THUNDER Agents spin-off)
Teen-in (4 issues, teen comics)
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents (20 issues)
Tippy Teen (27 issues, teen comics)
Tippy's Friends Go-go and Animal (15 issues, teen comics)
UNDERSEA Agent (6 issues, minimal ties with THUNDER Agents)

Then they were printed under JC Comics:

JC Publications (1981)

JCP FEATURES #1

JC Comics (1983)

T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #1
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #2

HALL OF FAME featuring
the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #1
HALL OF FAME featuring
the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #2
HALL OF FAME featuring
the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #3

Red Circle (1983)
Blue Ribbon Comics #12 (one-shot)

and finally

Deluxe Comics (1984-1986)

Wally Wood's
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #1
Wally Wood's
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #2
Wally Wood's
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #3
Wally Wood's
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #4
Wally Wood's
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #5

Some truly great books IMO and currently at the front of one of my DU boxes. Some classic characters and stories that transcended different companies in the likes of The Justice Machine and Hero Alliance. (But those two super teams are ANOTHER story  - more on those later hehehe)

And I can't say enough about Red Circle comics as well. Very nice line and I have two issues of The Fly with Jim Steranko cover art that is GREAT. Correct me if I am wrong but many of the Red Circle characters were revived in Impact! Comics... yes ?

Have to leave this as they might do it again, which makes sense and it really just a creator owned line of books.
They did try a few years ago with Trouble and Crimson Dynamo and a few others. I think the original idea was to showcase new creators as opposed to creator owned but I don't think they stuck with it. Went down the pan after about 6 months. Marvel necromancers obviously need more training before they start to bring back imprints from the dead.

They have Icon for the creator owned line now.

Epic was an old idea that should probably stay dead, but you never know with Marvel.
