Picked up a VVSS SW #11 today for $2.00. The comic and the certificate are in great shape, but the plastic sleeve (with the Valiant logo on the flap) is all scratched and scuffed. Do I need to keep the sleeve, or is the book and cert. enough? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

As far as I can tell no one downgrades the book if the sleeve is scratched or even missing. I know quite a few board members throw theres out (I keep everyone I can get my hands on).

Keep the sleeve, put the the book and COA into a mylar, or even a poly. The Valiant sleeves are dangerous - I wouldn't store books in them. When I sell a VVSS, I include the sleeve separately.

The sleeve, even missing, has no effect on value, IMO.

The COA is necessary, though.

Those Valiant sleeves are old and in most cases also becomming very brittle and will break around the flap in the back.

It's definitely good to keep anything of value away from those holders as I've had them break while inserting books and causing minor damage but damage nontheless.

When selling one of these, people rarely mention that it's not in the original sleeve (which actually has a little Valiant logo, making it official, right?).

I think, given the choice, that any of us would prefer it to be in the original sleeve than a polybag.
