Bound books
Has anyone here had any of their collection bound?
Im looking at making a Unity and some Harbinger and Magnus books in the next few months.
I had some Wildstorm books bound and the results are pretty cool. I'll post pics once I have some time to take them.
But I pretty much have my binding break downs for Magnus
Book 1 0-20
Book 2 21-39
Book 3 40-64
I also plan on having a die made with the Magnus logo for the front of the book.
Just curious if anyone here has tried binding with their Valiant collection and what books they had made up.

Depending on who you go through.Fanboy375 wrote:I would love to see the results. What does it cost typically?
www.dpbanks.com is the website for the Sales Rep for Capitol binding.
Here are some examples they post on the web
http://www.dpbanks.com/bookbinding.html
They are the best, but you pay for anywhere from 45-100 dolalrs per book bound.
For my earlier books I went through Library Binding
www.librarybinding.com
They were far more econmical at $15 per book, but its low frills. You get lettering on the spine and thats about it. For more money you can have dies created for logos and lettering on the front.
It's just an amazing space saver and for me, the value of the books is less of a factor since the ones I am binding are issues I treasure too much to have ever sold.

the pics will be up sometime tommorow.

I recall that as well but do not remember anything posted of it being done. It would be a good idea for low grad issues and would be a space saver for sure...myron wrote:I was just thinking that too...in fact they were kicking around the idea of setting up a board-binding or some such...that was a couple years ago though iircDaniel Jackson wrote:There is someone else around here who had some Valiant books bound, but I can't remember who it was.
Can we see the results??

Yeah, those two names don't ring any bells. I think it was someone else.myron wrote:that could be, but neither one of those are who I'm thinking of...ManofTheAtom wrote:I think that either b3studios or Anthony K. (the original Blood of Heroes) once mentioned that they had their books bound.

My first inclination is to agree with MotA that it is butchery, but then I regain my senses.
That second volume - 21 to 40 - the source material can be obtained for that quite easily. Hell, when I still had my doubles boxes, I could probably have assembled that run three times over from just my doubles boxes.
The first and third volumes would have a bit more expensive bindings on the inside, but not that expensive (particularly the 0 to 20) when you are not on the hunt for 9.8s. Magnus is an excellent choice.
As I recall, you also mentioned in your first post wanting to do something similar with HARD Corps. A quick perusal of Greg's always helpful price guide says the one issue of 1 to 30 with the lowest print run is 30, with a print run of 27,500, which is roughly the same print run as several books currently on my pull list. If you are fortunate enough to live in an area with a selection of quarter bins, I could see assembling the full run for $10.
If you are going to bind any books, Valiants are not that bad to do it too. Particularly if you get it bound attractively, which it sounds fully like what you want to do.

HARD Corps being my first intro to valiant is one I want to do as well.Chiclo wrote: If you are going to bind any books, Valiants are not that bad to do it too. Particularly if you get it bound attractively, which it sounds fully like what you want to do.
In fact I have all the issues for it except 23, 27,28,29.
For Magnus books 1 and 2
[0-20] and [21-39]
I have most of the issues from except I am hoping to find a magnus 0-8 without coupons and cards to bind. The ones I have still have the cards and I am not so heartless to rip those out if I do not have to.
But alas with the x-mas season oncoming I will likely wait till the convention season in 08 to really get my searches on. I plan on hitting MotorCityCon in May and Heroes Con during the summer.
Also with my harbinger collection it looks like I am doing 2 books, but I will number them 2 and 3 respectively and leave Harbinger:the beginning as book 1.
That way it includes the 0 and shooters new story.
book 2 8-25
book 3 26-41 Harbinger Files 1,2
Also in the works
Unity
Chapter 1-18, plus the lost chapter.
That book has been so easy to find chapters for in quarter bins, yet I remember being 12-13 and seeing $15-20 price tags on an issue if they even had any.

Seriously, how many loose, non-bound copies of the Unity saga do we need floating out there?ncameron wrote:In a sense. It's a great story. Best cross-over of the era and in the top few of all time. But really heavily printed. It's not like he's destroying a short box of Unity Reds.
Have you thought about binding 50 copies of Turok 1?

Here are some of my earlier books.
The books are
Fables 1-25, plus the Last Castle (red buckram gold lettering)
Automatic Kafka 1-9 (black buckram silver lettering)
Point Blank 1-5/Sleeper 1-12, Coup D'etat, Vol 2 1-12 (black buckram silver lettering)
Ultimates 1-13 Vol 2 1-13 (black buckram gold lettering)
I am really happy how they turned out, more so with the Fables. That book had fewer splash pages and gutters were used so very little art lost.
