Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

Feelings on Amalgam Comics

Would Amalgam Comics be a DU? For those that don't know, Amalgam Comics was a series of one-shots put out as a collaboration between DC and Marvel in the mid-90s. The characters were an amalgamation of two (or in one case that springs to mind, three) characters from each of the Marvel and DC universes.

Certainly, it fits both criteria implied by the name. It is a separate and distinct universe, with a great deal of cohesion among it's titles. It is dead. Amalgam is no longer printing.

As far as I know, I have a complete run of Amalgams. It is very finite, with only 20 or so books (if I still had my comics at the house, I could say more certainly).

If it is a DU, it was the first one that I was interested in as a whole (I did end up with a complete run of All New Exiles by Malibu prior to completing my Amalgam run), pre-dating my re-ignited interest in Valiant by over a year.

It is dead. It is finite. It is cheap-ish. Is it just mine?

I am sure you are not alone, and I think you are right, that by definition it is a DU.

Yes, I think it could be considered a DU but wouldnt 'crossover' suit better ? To me, it really fits the bill better than a DU. If they had a regular series to come out of it in the end, a DU would be more apt IMO. But I really got that 'oh hey it's summer time, lets make some money' feel to the whole series. Now I enjoyed it a great deal and would love to once again have a set of these, I just would be sorely pressed and need a rather large bribe to make them a DU.

What does anyone else think ?

Tough one. Maybe we need some criteria:

1. No longer in current publication (a five-year mandatory gap, or some other time-frame?)

2. Sequential publishing of at least one title (ie one title made it to issue 2 or more)?

3. Not a cross-over universe (how would that affcet deathmate, though...)?

Just a few ideas.

How about this:

If you have ever recieved a book that was used as packing material for an actual book that you bought off Ebay... it's a DU ?!!?

potentially add to this:

4) must have a developed cast of multiple central character(s)

5) must have a "universal" continuity to all titles/characters (or else they would be one-shots?!)

6) :hm:
