what.... no more VALIANTS!

Post by Elveen »

Ok so here is the story....

I had my fantasy football draft in my old home town, Palm Desert (well I really lived in Plam Springs then Cathedral City, but whatever...) and there is an LCS that I went to a few summers ago...

This guy had a bunch of VALIANTS... I got my Magnus #12 Magnus #0 (with card) , some shadowman I needed... they were right there... I mean out in the open..... so I bought those... then I went back a few weeks later.

I asked the guy if he had any other VALIANTS (he still had a grip of books out in the alphabetical books) but .... you know maybe he had some Harbys stashed some where...

He tells me... "I got them in long boxes in the back" :o :o :o

he said I could go back there, move the boxes around and see what I can find (he was a real helpful guy  )

so I go to the back... I don't know maybe about 15-20 long boxes accross, 3-4 long boxes deep, 8-10 long boxes high... :o :o :o

:D :D :D :D

so I start movin stuff, I find aa "E" box... Eternal Warrior... yes. I get some, but I can't stay to long, I'm kinda, sorta, maybe... not quite telling my wife that I am here buying comics.... my memory is sorta fuzzy...

(and anyway, at this time I was not the VALIANT crazed maniac you have come to know... I have always loved my VALIANTS, but right now... it is a whole 'nother story :thumb: )

anyway....

I remebered that there was boxes, and boxes of VALIANT at htis LCS... so I am heading out there for my fantasy draft... and you know I am stopping at the LCS first

I get there.... the store looks different... I ask a few questions...

new owners....

no long boxes in the back...

NO VALIANTS! :!: :!: :!: :!:

I use my charm... talk to the nice lady.... find out that the last owner took all of the back issues.... back to his dentist office, about 20 min. away.

Not to be defeated, I press on...

after a bit of hesitation, I "convince" the lady to call the old owner...

yes... he still has the books...

um.... "can I talk to him?" (I ask)

here is the bottom line.... he has like 60,000 comic books in his dentist office :o :o :o (in storage :hm:)

["yes Cindy, please pass the drill, but be careful not to get any blood on the Bloodshots" ... sorry I couldn't resist]

so now as I am talking to the "dentist" I am trying to figure out... how can I get these VALIANTS....

I tell him I am intrested in buying some of his books.... he offeres to sell me all of them..........................

what am I going to do with 60,000 comic books.......

I tell him I don't have that kind of money... but maybe we can find a way I can get the VALIANTS.....

I give him my phone #, I got his email (I got it somewhere......) so we'll see.....

I remember him having multiple copies of many, many VALIANT books.... what books I can't say....

But I just wanted to share..... bottom line I didn't get any VALIANTS.... but maybe, just maybe.... we'll see....

I mean.... 60,000 books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well good luck with that !!!

Gives us something to skype about tomorrow ? :hm:

This is great news and a very hopeful situation. You never know what you will find. Even if there are no premium books, just imagine how close you may be to completing your collection.

Let me know if you need help with anything. Even to the point of 'shoot, I don't have enough cash to pick up everything that I want'.... cause I will float you a loan ($$$) to help out with your collection. This sounds like a potential gold mine and I would hate for you to lose out.

Dude, if he's got any silver age I say you find a way to buy the collection. Keep in mind that although he may have a lot of Valiants, it's possible that he's got a long box worth of Turok 3 or Secret Weapons 1 and so on and so forth. Regardless, you also never know what you'll find so that's cool!!

What was he asking for the collection? And how do you go from Comic Store owner to Dentist? Is that a natural progression?

You would have to have a spare room dedicated to just your comics that's for sure.

Yeah. I'll be moving into a new house soon and plan to have one room for the comics. I seriously don't think a 12*12 room will be big enough though. :!: Time to sell and donate some books.

Well with my six kids... I will be 59 when the last one is out the door. I turn 40 in November. So I cry myself to sleep every night, knowing that a 'comic man cave' will happen late in life. I will have it for probably two weeks and then die of an aneurism while on the crapper. :!:
