First appearances of characters you want or have
After posting up a thread about whether I should get ASM300 or Tales to Astonish 90, I was thinking of some of the first appearances of major characters that I own and curious about what others on this board own. Also what characters' first appearances you guys are looking for.
I have first appearances of Gambit and Bishop, doomsday, Marauders, Mr. Sinister, Apacolypse and Hellboy along with like Hush. I know I have more but that is off top of my head.
Characters I am looking for right now:
1. Venom
2. Abomination
3. Thanos
4. Darkseid
5. wolverine
6. punisher

I'm not sure of all of them, but I know I've got first appearances for the following:
Gambit
Bishop
Doomsday
Superboy (90's version)
New Teen Titans (Starfire, Cyborg, and Raven)
Changeling (as Beast Boy)
Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD (I guess technically it's not a first appearance, but it's the first issue of the SHIELD series so I'll count it)
Teen Titans (original)
Wonder Girl (original)
Kamandi
Ultra Boy
Element Lad
Mon-El
I don't know if this would count as looking for first appearances, but I'm always looking for early Legion issues, and they almost always intro'd new Legionnaires in those books.

I got Doomsday also. I really liked that character and enjoyed his origin in the 3 issues he did with Superman. I see DC was smart enough to bring him back.
WOW you got the first teen titans! That book is real hard to find around here in Louisiana especially after Katrina as lot of people lost their comic book collections.
Did you ever read that annual of LEgion of SUperheroes where they introduced Vanguard? It was a great team and looks like their first and only appearance.

Hulk 181 is the holy grail of comics to me. If I am not mistaken that was the november 1974 issue, if so since comics date are 1 month haed of the actual month, then 181 came out on oct. 1974, the same month and year I was born.
ASM 9.2 is going for around $100 and 9.0 for $80 on ebay. Now according to Wizard, a CGC 9.8 ASM 300 is a whopping $780.

I had to get ASM 300 as I waited too long to get Hulk 181 and now regret not getting it when I had the chance. I am not taking a chance on one of my favorite characters, Venom.
You would think that Marvel would bring back Eddie Brock. I mean it would not be the first time they brought a dead(supposedly) character.

Yeah, that Brave & the Bold was at the top of my want list for a long time. I actually got it for Christmas one year after scouting Ebay for quite a while. One of the best presents I've gotten.Kino wrote:I got Doomsday also. I really liked that character and enjoyed his origin in the 3 issues he did with Superman. Vanguard showed up in the first New Teen Titans annual in the 1984 run. I'll agree, it was an interesting idea and I think you're right in saying that they haven't shown up since. I don't remember it, anyway.
Also, as for my wants, I'd have to add Adventure 247 and the Four Color 596 myself.

when i bought my hulk 181 i was very happy.
but there was a problem. in my warped comic book collecting mind i knew i wouldn't be complete until i purchased 180+182. so i bought those too a few months later.

Yeah I hear ya. I am not sure what is more signifciant about X-men #1, the first appearance of the X-men or the first appearance of Magneto. Yeah that book will be out of my price range for quite sometime.slym2none wrote:Hulk 181 and X-Men #1 would be my two "grail" issues, I suppose. Major 1st appearances in those issues, lemme tell ya........

I am working on filling in what I don't already have (a dozen issues between 12 and 93, and an up-to-date run from GS1 and #94 to current) and I think I might have to start looking at getting #1 first, as it's only going to rise in price...Kino wrote:Yeah I hear ya. Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

I have one, but it would probably grade out at a 5.5 or a 6.0 - one day, I will have one of these in 9.X condition, but I'm happy to have one at all right now. I paid $160 for a little over 10 years ago, and I bet you can get a CGC graded 6.0 for around this on eBay now.inmyblood wrote:I am currently looking for Giant size X-Men #1.

I am totally uninterested in any x-men lower than 94. I don't know why. The 1st 10 x-men would be a great investment if nothing else but...meh
