I was surprised to find out the first issue only has 16 pages.

Story pages? That's not surprising (to me) since it's only supposed to have 24 total pages instead of the normal 32.possumgrease wrote:I was surprised to find out the first issue only has 16 pages.

Complete BS, is right...geocarr wrote:That's bullsh!t!

terrible business practice, especially since they were charging $34 on a 1:25 to begin with and the books purchased to get the 1:25 are fully returnable.

And only cost them 80 cents each anyway.jaden_sai wrote:Complete BS, is right...geocarr wrote:That's bullsh!t!![]()

I got that pettily extortionate email from Midtown, too. I'm weighing what I'm going to do. Frankly, I'm a bit concerned, based on the way they've dealt with the sale of this issue so far, that they won't timely refund the $34 in a timely fashion if I decline to pay the extra 8. If I recall correctly, I paid the 34 up front, but I'll need to check my bank statement. And it bothers me that they've made me have to think about doing that.

I ponied it up this time but I'll reconsider doing business with them again. I wish I knew about Ed's business before Midtown or else I would have bought it only from him. Thankfully zed also had that killer deal for all the BoD books.

This was send to folks who had already paid for the book, and not at the point of purchase? Bad customer experience!

Especially poor form considering that now it's too late to preorder it from anywhere else.

Yep, that's why they did it. Looking to shake some extra copies loose to sell higher, or just sell higher. I sure don't remember reading that the sale price I agreed to pay was conditional, or subject to subsequent arbitrary change by the vendor.jeremycoe wrote:Especially poor form considering that now it's too late to preorder it from anywhere else.

Take to Twitter & Facebook to publicly shame them. Maybe they'll honor their previous price to shut you up.

If that reads as if *I* think you should shut up about it, that's not how I intended it. What I'm saying is that they'd probably prefer people aren't publicly complaining about their business.kjjohanson wrote:Take to Twitter & Facebook to publicly shame them. I sent an email expressing my displeasure and a request for a coupon code for future purposes. I post the reply if/when it comes. I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, and I too paid the $8.50.kjjohanson wrote: Did you receive this message personally?
I don't have an issue with how this book has been made available; but I DO have an issue with this occurring the week before the issue comes out. From a business perspective, this sort of feels like squeezing blood from a turnip. We ALL know the cost involved here, so believe me that I don't enjoy ordering a hamburger for $5, then just before the waiter delivers it, he tells me that the price has increased and that I now must pay another $2 to eat.
I ordered this early when this thread was on only a few pages, and have since made other deals with Zed, but and have a third deal in the works with DCBS (wanted to see how that works out...) but this Midtown change is HIGHLY annoying none the less.

I just sent them an email expressing my concerns about their having raised the price of an item after having sold it to a customer, and asked for someone to contact me. I also made it explicit that though I've asked for further contact from them, I'm not rejecting the book. We'll see what happens.

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
I got the e-mail too and I cancelled the order. Isn't Ed selling sets of LotG 1-4 for $60 each? Why would I pay $42 for one book when I can get it for an average of $15? Anyway, I ordered from Midtown first, long ago, so happy they reminded me to cancel on their inferior deal!
