I was thinking about buying a few Wii games to celebrate my new job. (It is either that, or a box of cigars, or some camera equipment).
If you had to recommend 3 Wii games, what would you recommend? What about ones meeting what I am looking for below.
I am looking for 2 types of games. First, I am looking for games that I can play with my wife after my daughter goes to sleep. They need to be games that we can play for between 15 minutes and 2 hours at a time - no sitting down for marathon gaming sessions. They need to be something simply enough to keep her interested (she is not a video game player, so nothing too complicated) but interesting enough to keep our interest. Ideally it would be a two player cooperative game, not competitive. Competition would be okay in some cases, she likes to beat me in bowling.
The second type of game is one that we can just sit down and play for a little while - sort of like the Wii sports or Wii play. Minigames, small competitions, etc would be great. It would be great if it were simple enough for my daughter (5 years old) to play as well (she likes the bowling, but gets tired of it after 5 frames or so). We have Super Mokney Ball Banana Blast (or whatever it is called) and for some reason she HATES that since she doesn 't want to see me fall off the edge.
So, given those criteria, what 3 games would you recommend?

I would highly recommend getting Super Mario Galaxy. It has a co-operative mode where one person controls Mario and the other gathers star bits and shoots them at enemies. You can also just take turns playing levels, some people are better at certain puzzles and moves than others.cjv wrote:I was thinking about buying a few Wii games to celebrate my new job. Super Smash Brothers Brawl just came out last week and it looks like a winner. Here is the X-Play review
Also, Mario Kart for the Wii is supposed to be out sometime this spring and from what I've seen of the previews, it is going to be a great multi-player game.

Also, during ME breaks, N+ is some hardcore, old-school gaming goodness...!
I can't wait for the Force Unleashed.

I'm anxious for that game to come out too. I'm glad they are putting it out on all platforms.TKWill wrote:Blasphemer!!X-O Dudeowar wrote:Mostly Mass Effect lately. Just got through playing Spiderman 2 for the last few weekends. Lame writing, weak story missions and repetitive gameplay But despite all that, this an absolutely awesome and addictive game! The controls on Spidey as he explores the city more than make up for all the flaws. Swinging, wallcrawling, and literally leaping between skyscrapers is a dream!
Spider-Man 3 didnt get so hot reviews but when my Xbox 360 gets back from the RRR Hospital, it will be one of the first games that I play. It is a TOTAL blast, pretty sweet graphics and heck... YOU ARE PLAYING AS SPIDER-MAN JUMPING, SWINGING, WHACKING BAD GUYS.
It's great.
I didnt even mess with SM2 though and never finished SM1. Now Ultimate Spider-Man for Xbox ? TOTALLY GREAT... perhaps of all time.

Yeah, it looks pretty good. But I've seen it so many times already, that personally I just like seeing something new - in this case, a game similar in design to KotOR, just without visiting the same Star Wars locales I've seen in dozens of games already.Dr. Solar wrote:I want to play that game now.TKWill wrote:Blasphemer!!X-O Dudeowar wrote:Mostly Mass Effect lately. This will be something new. The engine is among the most ingenious ever created from what I have read. The NPC combatants react differently depending on "how they feel" and mood. When you watch the video below as the guys are force grabbed they try to grab the guy next to them or the box by them. It seems subtle but that is one of those things that would actually happen. It's gonna be fun.X-O Dudeowar wrote:Yeah, it looks pretty good. Don't get me wrong, it's got a lot of potential. I'm just saying that, for my tastes, it's gonna have to be pretty darn good for me to overlook the Star Wars license - I'm just burned out on the franchise at the moment.TKWill wrote:This will be something new. Just wrapping up 3 or 4 weeks of playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
Incredible game. The story was better on X-Men Legends and I liked the way that game introduced the characters on your team "in story" but Alliance is a big universe wide x-over compared to Legends, which was a character driven mutant drama, so that makes sense.
Overall a definate improvement on X-Men Legends. Unlike the original Legends, missing the wrong disc won't prevent you from playing the rest of the "danger room" discs you find. Classic 80's costumes are available very quickly after you start playing a character (Spider-man in the black costume rocks). The characters are definately better balanced so I don't find myself relying so heavily on Wolverine (even if he does rock). Captain America, Spider-man, Thor, Luke Cage, Dr Strange, Iron Man and Ghost Rider and the Fantastic Four all kicked massive amounts of booty. The attention to detail is awesome: Captain America's ricocheting shield throw, Spider-man slinging his enemies around with his web-lines, Galactus being an all powerful force of nature, watching enemies run around on fire after Ghost Rider lights them up
You get the idea. And, oh yeah, it's also got the funniest credits in video game history.
There are so many characters in the game it's tempting to play it through again to develop some other heroes and find more easter egg conversations I missed but my thumbs need a break.
I really wish other adaptions (movies, shows) were this faithful and well researched.

Monster Hunter Freedom on PSP
You go around hunting monsters (as if you couldn't guess from the title) and gathering stuff for the leader of a village and get to make food, potions, weapons and equipment from the items gathered and carved off monsters. Better equipment means you can handle bigger monsters and go on harder missions.
Single player is a bit limited. Pretty much just find this, kill that. Been playing 2 player with my brother though and it is a lot more fun. More people (up to 4) means you can make better strategies to kill the harder monsters and get the kit from items you loot from them.
Another friend of mine has a copy and am trying to organise a time the three of us can hit the plains, deserts and jungles.
