Someone please explain to me why the single 'rarest' Pre-Unity first issue in 9.8 only sold for $29?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6502069394

I mean, come on...there's only 5 (so far) graded 9.8! My SNIPE bid was $75!

I'm telling you, it's a TOUGH, TOUGH book to find in uberhighgrade, and I think this was a damn steal.

;)
I have 20 copies of this book I got from some guy who kept it in a warehouse since production. I never thought this book was in demand for 9.8, that's why I never submitted the copies in. About 10 of those copies have a high chance of getting 9.8. Since CGC will be taking submissions at the Big Apple Show next weekend, how many of you are looking to get this in 9.8?

You're right it does. The colour of the cape comes out better, the clash with the yellow and the gold logo is much nicer. Overall its much more eye appealing.

Just raided a comics shop in Smithtown, NY, concentrating mainly on its 10 cent bin. I was looking to find some cheap commons and I found all this! Found (all in F to VF+ condition):

17 copies of Shadowman #19: Why is this book worth so much if they are so abundant?
Wariors of Plasm #1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 10
4 copies of Solar #33 w/card
Solar #34, 35, 57, 58, 59, 60
Armorines #2
Armed and Dangerous #1-3(for you Bob Hall fans)
Rai #18, 21 w/card
Harbinger #25
Secret Weapons #8, 12

Then I hit the 25 cent bin. Found in the same condition:
Rune #1, 2 (#1 signed by BWS!)
Acclaim Shadowman #1-5
Warriors of Plasm #2, 4 : BOTH signed by Mike Witherby (yeah, the inker, not a big deal)
Quantum and Woody #10, 19

Even though a bunch are common fodder, it is nice to know that we haven't completely returned to the price gouging days of the early 90's.

Vol 1? Or Vol 2? Vol 2 is pretty low printed, Vol 1 (the Aerosmith issue) can cover the entire state of Texas. ;)

I thought this was a descent deal.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6504388560

Consider it free shipping as I will be going to pick up this book from his store. :D

I was just thinking I needed another copy of Magnus 12, when... I saw a set of Magnus 0-10 and 12 for $20! I hope they have coupons, but if not... it's still a good deal.

I really like that V2 #1 Bloodshot cover. I've got the Poster also, weird it's my daughter's favorite out of all the V2 #1 Cover Posters.

Too bad mine are folded, any of you have Valiant Posters that aren't folded?

Nice lot of books. In case you didn't know the variant covers fit together to like the Unity ones did.

Knightt_333 wrote:Hey, I was wondering if anyone out there could help me out... I am looking for a Chaos Effect Alpha Red. I have looked all over for one and just have not found a single one. I am getting pretty close to completing my collection and this would REALLY help me out. I am hoping to get one for a pretty good price but I will tell you up front, I will pay more than ten cents, heck I would triple that !!! (or maybe more :) ) Heck I would even trade a gold Exiles vs X-Men SIGNED book that I just picked up (the PRIDE of my Ultraverse collection... ok the ONLY book in my growing Ultraverse collection).

:D
I like my ever growing Ultraverse collection, but not that much! :D

Actually I did real well at the store I went to yesterday and it was sheer luck that I got the great deals that I did. The store I went to isn't even really a comic store, it's a toy seller who only runs his store part time. He happens to have a lot of comics in bargain boxes priced at 25 cents each. I was in there once before and I remembered he had some Broadway Comics that I had passed up the first time I was in there so I went again.

I started going through the boxes and was basically finding nothing but Marvel, DC and Image until I happened to find a Defiant comic. That was the only book I pulled after going through five boxes, so the guy running the place says "If you're looking for Defiants, I have boxes downstairs full of that kind of stuff, and they would be priced at .10 each". I mentioned some of the other companies books I would be looking for and he told me they would all be in the boxes downstairs.

Luckily he doesn't appear to get a whole lot of business (I think most of his business is done through the phone as he was constantly getting phone calls and making deals over the phone) so he was able (and willing) to run downstairs and bring up the boxes for me to look through. The first box I went through I must have pulled out half the box. As I'm just getting started collecting the Ultraverse books, he had almost all the regular issues and quite a few variants, as well.

I also pulled out quite a few Valiants, Defiants, Broadway and other oddball books, close to a full long box worth. One of my best deals in a while!

I was posting back and forth with Bodda Zoffa this afternoon about the new Avengers book that has been published, and He told me about the variants available. So I jump in the car and scoot on down to a LCS I've been eyeing for awhile now. Bad news= no Avengers #1s at all..... Good news= they had about 7 long boxes of 10cent bins to root through. Take a look.

Before anyone poo poos my little victory, let me say I know there are no "Grails" here but all this for just over $10.00 bucks!?? And I get to feel great for saving some really nice Valiants from a nasty end! Notice the signature on the A+A #1. I belive it's Bob Layton, and the receipt includes three new books at $2.95 each so all the Valiants come to a whopping $12.00!!!!
Thanks Bodda and SOTU for making me feel guilty enough to dig through the bins!!!! Let me know what you think.

ps: can anyone tell me if it is Mr. Layton's sig? Thanks!

I got some other decent Valiants in these 10 cent boxes, as well. I picked up a Visitor vs. the Valiant Universe #1 newsstand edition (still can't find an extra copy of #2, sorry Woogieman), a Rai #5, Magnus #14, Magnus/Nexus Preview, and Eternal Warrior #35 with the white outer warning cover. There was also a Harbinger #3 in the box, but alas, no coupon. I passed on it even at 10 cents.
