Tonight while at work I read 3 TPB's:
The Legend of Luther Strode - good violent fun
Axe Cop: President of the World - I loves me some Axe Cop, always cracks me up.
Rachel Rising vol 1 - creepy excellence. if you're a fan of Revival and you haven't read this series yet, you should.

I've been thinking about trying this one out. I don't why I didn't pick it up on the Image site when they had the sale - maybe it's one of the few books that isn't on their siteMarkRoseHFX wrote:

Re: What comics are you reading now?
The Alan Moore run on Swamp Thing has been on my list of comics to read for years, and I never got around to it. My wife just got me the 'Saga of' trades, vol.1 & 2 for Xmas, and I've been loving them so far - just read through the first story line with Wood-Rue tonight. Awesome stuff, as I expected. Seriously should have read these ages ago.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I can tell already. Moore is an unbelievable juggernaut of creative, intelligent imagination. What an awesome re-invention of Swampy's origin, so easily woven into what went before it.MarkRoseHFX wrote:you're in for one hell of a ride it's GREAT stuffgrendeljd wrote:The Alan Moore run on Swamp Thing has been on my list of comics to read for years, and I never got around to it. Interestingly, I can also see seeds of inspiration for Gaiman's first storyline of Sandman coming from this.

I finished Scalped.... but also realized that I was actually missing #54, but I just skipped it and kept going.
The end was ok as ends go. But really I don't think there was and end that could have been great. I want the story to keep going.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I picked up a graphic novel that Stjepan Sejic did a couple of years ago called Ravine. The world in which it takes place has a lot in common with the world in which Aphrodite IX is taking place - dragons and cyborgs and such. And most importantly it features the art of Stjepan Sejic. Beautiful book! It was released through Top Cow. I have pre-ordered the second volume but don't know when it is scheduled to ship.lorddunlow wrote:Lazarus and Jupiter's Legacy are on deck for tonight - after I recover from my aggravating day.grendeljd wrote:Cool, I'd love to know what you think of Lazarus, Pretty Deadly & Jupiter's Legacy after you read them!lorddunlow wrote:Let's see:grendeljd wrote:18 issues... No way I can read several issues of 7 different series and not add one to my pull list. This may be the end of my Q&W experiment.
Manifest Destiny #1
Lazarus #1-5
Black Science #1-2
Pretty Deadly #1-3
Aphrodite IX #2-4 (#1 is a FCBD book)
Jupiter's Legacy Giant Sized #1 (actually contains #1-3)
Dead Body Road #1 (Justin Jordan)
Rocket Girl #1-2
So, Pretty Deadly - I want to like it. It's well written. I like the art. The story is intriguing. I'm definitely going to read a few more issues, but I'm not ready to add it to a pull list yet.
I'm sure I'll be teased mercilessly, but I LOVE Aphrodite IX. I read all 4 that I bought last night, and I plan on picking this up monthly. The art is phenomenal - sometimes I thought there were actual photos being used, but it is all digital paint (very similar to Clayton Crain) and beautiful. I'm a fan of Stjepan Stejic (I think I spelled that right) now.
The writer is the same guy that does Think Tank, and I noticed a few people listed that in their top 10 comics list. I'm also loving the writing. Very fun blend of both sci-fi and fantasy - it really takes me back to childhood when I was obsessed with the Anne McCaffrey books. He even has a section in the back with links to science articles he uses as reference material.
In short, how can you go wrong with a story about a programmable cyborg assassin (very similar to the characters in Dollhouse) in a world with cyborgs, genetically modified humans, and friggin' dragons, man?
Aphrodite IX may not be the best book I'm reading, but it is certainly the most enjoyable to read.

I would consider buying a phone book if Stjepan Sejic drew it.

I've been following him on Twitter and going through his Deviant Art site. There's a lot of Ravine stuff on there. I'm probably going to pick it up. It looks really cool. His upcoming Death Vigil looks interesting too. I'd love to see him do a one-shot with VEI (or even an ongoing or something - he could swing it, the dude is prolific!)Chiclo wrote:I picked up a graphic novel that Stjepan Sejic did a couple of years ago called Ravine. Re: What comics are you reading now?
Read the first trade of the new Prophet series last night...some gloriously odd and inventive art, and the story...I can't decide if it is ACTUALLY epic, or just going for the trappings of epic. May be too early to tell.
Read Blacksad Volume 1 this past weekend - gorgeous art; the detail in some of those panels is amazing! Great crime/detective series.
And the first trade of Nowhere Men - I really liked parts of this, but it was a bit tedious to get through. Might have been my mood. I'll pick up the next trade to see where it goes.

I felt the EXACT same way about this. it was VERY tedious to get through. I might re-read it again before I decide whether or not to give vol 2 a shot.dbngaa wrote: And the first trade of Nowhere Men - I really liked parts of this, but it was a bit tedious to get through. Re: What comics are you reading now?
Tedious. Definitely fits Nowhere Men. I would place this book as the most disappointing read I've tried. It has SO much potential, but it just went nowhere (not an intended joke). I read the first 4 issues as they came out and dropped the title. Went back and read them all together, but still just didn't like it. I want to like it, but I just can't. I had the same problem with Peter Panzerfaust.
Lazarus, though, is wonderful. I think I got to half way through #4 (it may have only been #3) before I passed out last night. I don't see this as a monthly book though, because this book is on par with X-O for decompression of plot.

I read the first arc of 5Gs.
I think it had tons of promise and potential.
But by the end I think I was a bit let down.
I will for sure read issues that follow, but hopefully rhere is a bit more pay off.
It is a great concept for a story.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I just read Rocket Girl #1-2. Wow. I really don't have the comic budget for another monthly, but I might have to make room (which doesn't bode well for Quantum and Woody).
The story is just good plain fun with lots of fun 80's references. The art is beyond awesome. Amy Reeder is essentially the lighthearted, clean style Yin to RDLT's dark, moody Yang. Every page was awesome.
#1 was a little too decompressed for my tastes, but #2 made up for it as it was extra meaty. I don't know that I could trade-wait (or even digital price drop-wait) this title.
Seriously, you guys should check it out.
