Not a super-great one, but it's the best I've done lately.

Not sure if I read that auction copy right, it sounds like you're going to get two copies of the X-O Database VVSS for that $1.25. If that's the case, that's a steal of a deal. Only drawback is I see he doesn't take Paypal. no big deal I guess if you don't mind taking the time to write a check. Good work, that looks like it would have been tricky to find using the typical Valiant searches.X-O HoboJoe wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 2289588538

Apparently that's typical for that book. I think we've come to the conclusion after past discussion that there was not a certificate for every copy of that book, and that the COA was often photocopied. Not sure if it's possible to tell an original copy of the COA from a photcopy and if so, if that affects the value of the book.X-O HoboJoe wrote:Got 2 signed books in excellent shape, but only one cert, and it looked like a photocopy.

Although they are not Valiant and not a super bargain, I just picked up the following books from a private seller's website:
Marvel Spotlight #5 VF/NM 9.0 (it is a nice 9.2 copy) - $100
Iron Man #55 NM- 9.2 (looks 9.4 or possibly better) - $100
I was pleasantly surprised to find someone that undergrades their books as as seller, especially based on the past few "high grade" books I won on eBay. These two were testers but now I am going back for the rest of his Marvel Bronze Age keys! Unfortunately, the Hulk #181, X-Men #94 and GS X-Men #1 are already gone. Based on the large cover scans, they were 9.2 or better copies and he sold them for only around 60% of guide!
Cheers,
Skiw

I don't know how wrunow does it but this man could find a hulk #181 on eBay in nm and only pay $2 for the thing. It's his super power. No offense, but $18.50 ($12.50+ $6.00 shipping) for a Harbinger #1 doesn't seem like that great of a bargain to me. It's a fair price if you don't already have one, but not really worth it to me just to put into my Harbinger #1 hoard pile.wrunow wrote:Bid on this auction early and forgot about it, couldn't believe I actually won at this price, where were all you guys?

Got this today...been keepin' quiet about it til I got it.
Someone please explain to me why the single 'rarest' Pre-Unity first issue in 9.8 only sold for $29?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6502069394
I mean, come on...there's only 5 (so far) graded 9.8! My SNIPE bid was $75!
I'm telling you, it's a TOUGH, TOUGH book to find in uberhighgrade, and I think this was a damn steal.

Aye, zeph it's a rare one and one I was looking at but I went for the Gold. A good thing about this book is the all blue cover along with the solar 2 all yellow and the many Pre Unity Valiant books with solid coleored covers, combined with the paper/printer combo and they become especially difficult in 9.8.
My motto up till now has been going after the valiants in 9.8 w/ solid color covers. I think XO 5 9.8 is another special book. Childsplay for BWS but still a fantasitic cover.

You know...something that's always bothered me....I know BWS picked the colors for A&A #0...but I can't shake the feeling that it would have been a LOT prettier had the blue been Navy, instead of Sky...
Just my feeling.
Anyhoo...hey, $29 for a 9.8 Pre-Unity book, REGARDLESS of what it is, is a steal.
That it's the rarest 9.8 Pre-Unity first issue is only icing on the cake.
Just my feeling.

I think part of that reason is most people will not send it it to be graded unless they are inexperienced. And chances are they might not know how to grade, thus why it seems hard to get in higher grades. I have a few copies I know would grade at 9.8 but it is not worth it to me to get them graded for a $1.00 book. If it were the Gold version I would agree with you. But with its 100,000 print run it is not hard to get in high grade. At least for me.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:You know...something that's always bothered me....I know BWS picked the colors for A&A #0...but I can't shake the feeling that it would have been a LOT prettier had the blue been Navy, instead of Sky...

Normally, I'd agree with you...but Shadowman #1 is a $1 book, ostensibly, and there are 30-ish copies (too lazy to look up right now) graded at 9.8.x-omatic wrote:I think part of that reason is most people will not send it it to be graded unless they are inexperienced. Soooo....granted, now that this one sold for a mere $29, no one's gonna rush out to have it graded now....but....the nature of the book being what it is, I just don't think there are that many 9.8+ out there raw.
Could be wrong....we'll see.

Shadowman #1 is a $1 book? Is that from recent sales numbers or what you would pay for it? It had half the print run of A&A #0, but I agree that the A&A is probably much rarer in nice shape than Shadowman #1 due to the cover colors. Alot better story too, in my opinion.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Normally, I'd agree with you...but Shadowman #1 is a $1 book, ostensibly, and there are 30-ish copies (too lazy to look up right now) graded at 9.8.

Yeah, sure, I pick them up all the time on eBay and cons for $1 or less. Definitely one of the most common pre-unities.400yrs wrote:Shadowman #1 is a $1 book?
