IT MAKES YOU WANT TO SCREAM AND THROW LARGE, HEAVY OBJECTS THROUGH GLASS.

The NERVE. The NERVE of these idiots.

I grade this N/M.Hardley a blemish.

the fact that he couldn't spell "hardly" didn't tip you off that he might be a moron! :?

I don't know, I think if I was you, ZWH, I would have given up on buying books off eBay by now. You seem to have more of these type of problems than anyone else I've ever heard of! I know you love the bargains, but I have to believe it's not worth all the aggravation that you have to go through dealing with all these returns/refunds. Well, to each his own. :thumb:

He's not the only one with these types of problems. He’s just the most vocal. Of course ZWH is probably looking for those 10% of guide deals on eBay which most of us avoid because we know the person isn't a grader but if he buys 9 copies and one turns out good then he still wins.

I just recently bought an Amazing Spider-Man #135 described as "Excellent shape" and it came to me as fine or less condition with huge spine stress and folds. Now I have to wait 30 days and ninja neg the person for being stupid. I suspect two other auctions I bid on will turn out similar. I just jumped the gun a little in the last couple of weeks is all.

Average amount of auctions ZWH bids on per month:

1000+ (I can show you the esnipe pages, I shat you not.)

Average amount of auctions ZWH wins per month:

50-100

Average amount of auctions ZWH has a problem on, per month:

2-10, depending.

That's not bad, all things considered.

Keep in mind, this is what I DO for a life. I am most happy trolling for deals, and spend a great deal of my free time doing so.

So, naturally I'm going to have more problems 'per capita' than most; it's just the numbers game.

No, not really. My threshhold for Silver and Gold books is 25% of Guide, in grade given. For X-Men, Spidey, and Bats, it's 33%. For CGC it's 30-50% of Guide.

Moderns it's basically '$5' or 'what it averages out on eBay'.

I'm not an idiot, obviously. But I also shouldn't have to treat every seller as if he/she was a lying scumbag. It just doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather believe that a seller isn't lying, until proven otherwise.

If someone says something is 'Near Mint'...it needs to be in Near Mint. Duh.

And if it's not...the seller will think TWICE before doing it again, unless they're a REAL crook.

These sellers NEED to be told what they're doing, and if someone has a problem with me being the eBay nanny, too bad. I've been hurt FARRRRR too badly as a seller (so much so that I could no longer do it to support myself full time...another one bites the dust) because of fuktards that screw people over, and so everyone ELSE just 'assumes' to grade 'one grade lower'...except that my grades already ARE as tight as they get...so my F/VF, which is the shoddy seller's 'VF/NM', turns out to be a potential buyer's VG/F....

....and do you have any IDEA what the spread is between a VG/F and a VF/NM?

Yeah, we're talking lots of money lost.

I've told you all before, I'm *THIS* close to just playing when in Rome, and overgrading everything a grade...I'm tired of people not bidding more than 15-25% of Guide for ACCURATELY graded books.

The only thing stopping me is my conscience. Sigh.

I agree. It would be tough for me to bump everything up a grade, even though it seems to be a widely accepted e-bay strategy. I know that I automatically knock everything down as a buyer until I know the seller to be legit. I've just seen too many crappy VF/NMs to have faith in every seller right off the bat.

Hate to say it, but this could be a way to make good money off of commons. "hard to find" and "I saw this book sell for $20." Yeah right. I think that with all the attention on Valiants, this could work to sell the crappy commons. Seems to be working for this seller/scam artist.

You know what? After thinking about it, I think that this particular issue actually selling can be attributed to Wizzerd. Their prices on the Valiant stuff is pretty funky in spots. I've noticed that the Valiant books have tons more red AND green highlighting than anything else listed. This is probably because they have no idea of what the prices should be.

In this particular situaton, last month's issue listed the Shadowman #0 regular chromium edition back in the CGC section, selling for like $135 in CGC 9.8. That's the regular issue (the price may be a little off because I'm going from memory, but it's some insanely high price for the book.) Maybe the seller and/or bidders saw that and decided that it was worth something because of that Wizzerd listing.

Note...it's 'Valiant Comic Book No. 0'....not 'Shadowman'. ;)

And this book has never, in its history, sold for '$20'. :)

I attribute that price in wizard to the Shadowman 0 Gold CGC 9.8 that sold on comiclink for over $100. It's hard to distinguish the gold from regular on the link, short of looking at the scan.

Perhaps someone with a Wizard connection can correct them before the spam starts on eBay and all these potential sellers get burned out all over again! :|

Ok, here is more evidence that people are observing Valiants in Wizzerd magazine:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 55529&rd=1

Again, the same comic I brought up last time. Seller notes that it guides between $100 - 135. $135 is the price that Wizzerd somehow arbitrarily assigned this common book in CGC 9.8 shape. If you look at Gregs numbers, it sold a few times between 25 and 34 including shipping.

Somehow Wizzerd has the 9.8 Gold copy of this book listed at $85. Guess the gold edition must be a lot easier to get, huh?

Plus I would think it much easier to find a foil cover book in a CGC 9.8 condition since it's not as fragile.
It's Solar... Don't call him Dr. Phil!
