I dropped it. I couldn't take it anymore. I want to like the book. It's the only DC character that I've liked enough to try and start a legit SA collection. After about a year of paying 2.99 a month for garbage, I made the tough choice to be done with it. I'm not missing it now.

Fables might be the best book I've ever read. EVERY story arc is GREAT.

Sandman is A+, so is Fables.

Astro City (first 2 runs) is A+, Ruse #1-12 A+.

But it might be Fables as my #1 book.

Thanks for the recommendations. I picked up the first sandman today and my LCS was out of the first Fables book. I will definitely pick it up with all of your guys' praise.

I am really getting tired of reading the X-Men and Spider-man books. It is like the same sh*t different day. I am really enjoying books by Brubaker, stazcynski and johns. I think that I am going to have to supplement spidy and x-men for some of these vertigo books to just check them out.

Fables needs to be read from the beginning . . the first book is a little hokey . . but the series takes flight with the 2nd tpb and never looks back . . .

I really just gets better and better with each trade . . .

I agree, but you do have to start at the beginning.

Skyscrapers Of The Midwest is up next.
Are those two related? I read a little write up on Blankets. It sounds good, but is it tough to find or is it in print still?

Do it!! Cut the ties to Marvel crap and read something worth reading! There is good writing out there! Fables, Sandman, Air, Madame Xanadu had a good start, and there's more but you have to search for them and read this thread for recomendations. This thread has really helped me find good writing instead of books I'm just going through the motions with every month.

No they aren't related. You can find Blankets on Amazon.

Skyscrapers Of The Midwest is fantastic.
I got Blankets at a Borders. It always seems to be there too. It's easy to find. It was really fantastic. It's a love story, and it really expresses what it is like to fall in love for the first time amazingly.

I've been on a "good" comics kick lately, and the "good" stuff isn't coming from Marvel or DC.

I'm at April Fools Day in Long Halloween.

I like it, but it reads VERY fast. Not much dialogue, but good.

I really like the "feel" of the art of the book.

Tim Sale does a GREAT job on the art, but also in the symbolism. Look at how he foreshadows Harvey becoming Two Face by showing half of his face in the dark and half in the light. There's some other stuff going on there with his art that is cool :thumb:

all this talk about reading the books made me think of how cool it would be to have a comic shop with a "borders/coffee shop" atmosphere. mystic new age music playing softly in the backround with a bunch of must read hardcovers on the coffee table. zeph would pop in three times a day to chat, you could drink a double mocha frappa-puchizi mulgrew and bask in the greatness our beloved medium...until some whack job kid steals yer freekin hardbound edition of killing joke while you were tossing those three trekkies out for arguing about the photon lasers schematics they found on the internet!

has anybody else been reading the Samurai - Legend Limited series published by Marvel? I can hardly put it down. I really great read. It is European comic book translated into english.

The only downfall is that the books are pricey. I spent $6 yesterday for book #3. #1 and #2 were $5 each.

Just picked up a run of DoW in the quarter boxes. Wardancer was my fave title from that line, but DoW had some goos moments, as well. :thumb:
