For anyone interested, the books arrived today and look great! It doesn't even look like they were ever opened... I bet the harbingers would all be 9.6 or above...tssgery wrote:A few nice pre-Unty finds on ebay earlier today...

well...one of the milwaukee cs had a 25% off sale...charged $2 admission...there were cookies, fudge and soda available, plus you got a 6 book grab bag on your way out...anyway...this shop has a large back issue basement...but most items are not bagged and boarded so the years have not been good to most issues, but there are multiples of just about every comic. I think everyone gets charged different prices on stuff cause nothing is marked (no place to) I picked up the following for $2 each (then less 25%)
solar 48-60 (3 issues of 60)
Turok 0, 33-47, The Hunted 1 and 2
EW Wings of Justice
ShadowMan 0 (non chrom), 30-43 (3 issues of 43)
Magnus 64 (newstand)
Ninjack 18-26
X-O 61-67
Deathmate Prologue Gold
Not great but the end issues a plenty. Also met Brother J there...he found a couple of gems too...too bad the grades aren't higher

Cool to meet you, Myron! You'll hopefully forgive me if I seemed a little out of it, we're babysitting dogs for some friends and we're still getting used to their habits, so I haven't been getting a whole lot of sleep the last few days.
As for the sale, I was extremely excited about some of the stuff I got, just not the Valiants because I'm sure both Myron and I have picked those boxes clean in our previous visits. Here's the Valiant related stuff I picked up:
Magnus #64 two newsstand copies (found out one was dinged to hell, missed the damage in the dark basement). For some reason this store had a stack of Magnus #64 newsstand editions, I handed Myron the stack, let him take the ones he wanted, picked a couple for myself and put the rest of the dinged up things back.
I passed on the Solar #60's as all the copies they had left had spine stress marks or worse, which was apparent on the dark background.
Shadowman V2 #16 retailer review copy. No V2 Shadowman #16 glow in the darks. They also had Deadside #2 and 3 which I passed on.
Rai #0 Glossy??? I picked up their stack of Rai #0's and one stood out with the glossiness of the cover. Not sure if it's an actual glossy, but it looked good to me.
I also picked up an Akira #38 NM for $6 and a couple Crumb undergrounds, Zap #1 (likely a third print, .35 cover) for $20 and Uneeda Comix #1 (might be a 1st, have to check, .50 cover) for $5
I also picked up some Defiant, Broadway and Ultraverse books, but I'm going to brag about them on Defiant1's board, so if you're interested, check out my post there.

like wise!...Hey, I was out of it too, having been up since 3:00 am with a sick child...I was gonna check out the broadways, but I already had my monitary quota filled with my valiants...we'll have to meet again for a brew!Brother J wrote:Cool to meet you, Myron! ewww, I didn't even think of that. I hope no one ate the free grub then rooted through the back issues.soundoftheuniverse wrote:Myron & Bro J did you notice any cookie/fudge grease on any of the books?
I use gloves when handling unprotected Valiants. Were you cringing to see greasy hands rummaging through those old bagless books?

I didn't eat anything and I waited until I left before I got my soda that came with the admission. Did'nt want any stickiness on my mitts! I also passed on the grab bag because in the past they have always marked the grab bag books with a big black mark from a felt pen.
The Valiant's main defects were color transfer, especially the pre-Unity books. We passed on three Magnus #12's, that's how bad it was. Spine stress marks were also major problems. I just don't see the logic of having such a great back issue selection but letting it go to crap by not bagging and boarding the books.

How much were they asking for those Mag 12's? They musta been really haggard looking things to pass em at a buck or two.
I passed on some raw a guy wanted $20 for so it wasn't that hard.
I don't see the logic in marking the actual books with a felt tip marker or stamp unless you just don't understand or care about their potential value. They're still good to read so I guess it's all good, you're just losing money on whatever you paid for them since not many people are going to want them all maked up.

Good to know there are others with the same 'fliction!!
ps:guess who figured out how to post pics to the web??!!!

My 2 best deals
DEAL #1
All of my:
Bloodshot Last Stands
EW last issue
EW Yearbooks
EW specials
Harbinger last issues
MRF last issues
Pretty much all my last issues for those books listed in my inventory came for my pilliageing the dollar bins at a comic book store in SC and a toy/junk store in GA.
Got them all for at most, a dollar each. Some for $0.20 each because I was buying in bulk.
DEAL#2
BACK in the day on eBay, I did a BIN auction for a M/NM Magnus #12 for $2.50 + shipping.

I've been to that store in up in cheese country while up for a wedding. After rumaging through all the damaged books and picking out a couple the guy at the counter told me that I had to buy more or I couldn't use my credit card he also told me all the valiant stuff was cover price. So I wasted so more time that I didn't have picking out a few more books only to be told that they were more that cover because they were early issues

The shocking thing is that it actually was in VF condition.

Well, remember a few pages back when ZWH was telling us about his Tick 2 find? It happened to me this week, for something I never thought I would get.
Most of you will not care, and now that I've found one and posted this 10 more will get offered for sale, but for now it's something I'm extremely happy about.
Most of you know I collect the Valiant Nintendo and WWF stuff, and had never even seen a picture of one of these in it's pure form, just a mention on the old ValiantNintendo site.

Earlier this year I did find the book, loose, on ebay, but I never dreamed of finding the whole deal completely sealed and unmolested. I had looked for the book for over 4 years.
So, mock me if you must, but I'm one happy camper.

It's Valiant, so no mocking necessary. The Nintendo and WWF books should be important to those who care about the history of the company. I'd love to see more talk about them, like print runs and information on other oddball stuff like this.ckb wrote:So, mock me if you must, but I'm one happy camper.
