I came by my guess my figuring out the rate of posts. The only question is what the best time frame was to use to determine that. (It was actually a combo of how many posts were made within a certain time frame, and the time frame it took to accumulate a certain number of posts.

One of the calculations I made, since we were about 5500 posts away when I determined my pick, was how long it took for the previous 5500 posts to be made. I then did the same for the previous 550 posts and multiplied the time by 10, and a few similar calculations, and averaged them together. I figured it would be late in the day on 7/10, but I picked an earlier time because when I chose my time it was about in the middle of the next closest active pick before and after.

day one i thought this was a strangely winnable contest. anyone who gets mad over "rigging" the game didn't think the game through completely.
