Seems a book like this will do very well in the short term but there still appear to be alot of long term IF's with regard to it's "rarity".
I predict it will go the way of XO .5 gold as this auction will turn ALOT of heads. If they're out there we should see more soon.
Very interesting auction. It will be interesting to revisit the price on these in another 6 months and a year to see how good of a deal this auction was in hindsight.
I could see paying 100 for one if there was a REAL print run on them. Seems really iffy still on these. I do think however that the real benchmark is how tough are they to find at LCS's and CONS. If in fact only 2 members own one then they're worth quite a bit. At least for the short term.

In that scenario, there'd be about 15,000 copies...Unblessed wrote:Now, suppose each store got 10 copies, times to total number of stores in 2002, what do you suppose a print run would be?
however, that would outnumber the print run
from any Acclaim book since about 1997.
Doubtful they'd do so many just to give them away.
Honestly, I expected just one copy to show up on Ebay, eventually,
and I believe that one copy would easily sell for at least $80...
that's why the price guide moved from $50 to $80.
I don't believe there are 10 people that would pay $80, but I could be wrong.
Just like the other Acclaim "rarities", I expected the first two or three sales
to be very high... above $80... and I pictured the price falling after
about 5 sales... stabilizing by 10 sales... etc.
I'm prepared to adjust the price guide up or down based on the market.
In fact, I think there might even be more "downs" than "ups" in the 1/21 update.
Well, according to everyones theory, you are right. A majority of stores received 5-10 to give out to the individuals whom preordered the book. I contacted all the stores in my area once I moved to Colorado and spoke with the managers. They remembered the book and about how many each of them received were sketchy. I was able to get my copies this way as they still had them at home. I emailed EB games last year trying to dig up some more of them and they didn't have any more. Too bad as I would have loved to taken them off of there hands.

My stepbrother was at a con once and picked up a bunch of grossly overprinted comics (I can't remember the issue, could have been Turok 1 or something like that) for about a quarter each and then started ripping them up in front of the dealer.mrwoogieman wrote:I'm going to just outbid everyone and then burn them for the dreck they are!! :x
The dealer was pretty upset and the two almost came to blows.

This just shows me how much influence someone's price guide can be on price & demand.
If this issue wasn't part of the 100% inventory list, would it hold as much significance?
Case in point: I'm looking for the Shadowman V3 Game Variant issue & the X-O/Ironman Game Variant issue, which aren't even on the inventory list, yet we know they exist.
Why aren't they on the list, yet this 'game variant' is?
I say either add the other two, or remove this one. I mean, if you want to be a completeist, why not include the various Turok, Shadowman, & Armorines Game Strategy Guides also. They are cool & have a direct revelance to the V2 Universe as much as the Evolution Game Variant issue does. Or how about the Turok paperback novels that I posted pics of last Summer? The Adventure Zone issues have Bad Eggs stories, should the Bad Eggs books be included on the V2 list? This is a sketchy zone in regards to Valiant/Acclaim collecting. What do you other completeists have to say about this?---Steve

Simple answer... the two books you mentioned weren't known when I made the list.Vault-Keeper wrote:This just shows me how much influence someone's price guide can be on price & demand.

Follow-up... I'm working on the inventory system to allow additional books
to be added without making 100+ people re-do their Excel sheets.
It's coming along... nicely...

The Shadowman V3 Game Variant has sold twice, $58 and $76...
and I can guarantee the price guide didn't cause those prices...
because that book wasn't listed at all when they sold.

OK, How do you guys feel about this part of my previous post?:
"I mean, if you want to be a completeist, why not include the various Turok, Shadowman, & Armorines Game Strategy Guides also. I have the Turok paperbacks (except #4), & several of the strategy guides, including one for Evolution, all of which have cool artwork, info, etc. that was reprinted nowhere else. I feel these fall into the same catagory as the two Turok magazines: Seeds of Evil & Adon's Curse.
But then agan, I'd be happy to see ALL the Valiant/Acclaim related issues & imprints listed SOMEWHERE for reference (other than Mile High), including all Magic issues, Armed & Dangerous, Killer Instinct, Bad Eggs, Knighthawk, Valeria She-Bat, Star Slayer, Bar Sinister, The Grackle, Classic Illustrated, Saban Power Rangers, Baywatch Magazine, & all the early Nintendo & WWF stuff. Were the Tick or Disney Digests ever made? If so, then them also. Plus maybe a Dell/Gold Key/Whitman listing for Turok, Magnus, Solar, & maybe Captain Johner (since Valiant reprinted two issues during V1). I've never compiled a complete list, but it would be interesting to know how many issues there would be in a COMPLETE Valiant/Acclaim collection, & a COMPLETE Dell/Gold Key/Whitman collection of the above mentioned titles.---Steve

It's just a monstrous task when you get into the related materials, like the paperbacks and trade/fan magazines. I do not envy anyone who tries to organize this stuff.
Sonicdan keeps good track of the card-related material.
Dino likes the fan magazines and signed issues.
Greg has his sights on the VH1-3 comic books themselves, more or less, although I find myself in the 'misc item' section here all the time.
Quentin had a handle on the Nintendo and WWF stuff.
Someone would have to bring all this together and more, and it would never really be done. Sounds like a perfect job for Steve...
I certainly would use such a resource. If it would flush some of the harder to find material, that's another bonus.

In sort of a "long-term objective" way...
I would like to see all that information on ValiantComics.com,
but I wouldn't want to step on any toes putting it here.
Dan, Dino, and Quentin (among others) have done great jobs
in compiling this type of information, and for now, they may
be the only online source of reference. I wouldn't want to "kill" their
work and their sites by providing the same information here...
unless it was ok with them for me to "stand on their shoulders"
and use their respective lists, images, etc...

By all means, step on my toes. I'd be more than happy to see a magazines or signed books list on the site. It would give the topic much more exposure and allow me to move onto another aspect of valiant.greg wrote:In sort of a "long-term objective" way...

"Were the Tick or Disney Digests ever made?"
I actually have a Tick digest (Adventure-zone sized) that was published by Acclaim. Discovered it in my collection about a month ago.
I'm a massive fan of the original Tick series, but this was a weak imitator based on the cartoon. Pathetic.
It is to Tick 1-12 what the Archie TMNT series was to the original Mirage version.
Skip it, burn it, whatever...

Would be nice to see SONIC Dan's and the other sites represented here. You could incorporate their logo's and link for more info etc. But it would be done with Greg's flair and keep with the feel of VC.com.greg wrote:In sort of a "long-term objective" way...

We all know how killer it would look and quite frankly there's no need to short change ourselves... it's just ALOT of work.

Currently is the opportune time for such a task now that Valiant is as corporately dead as it can be.
We...(Greg)... might as well get make the site as comprehensive as possible. Greg if it's not too much to ask... since you're already adding stuff...could you just add EVERYTHING EVER MADE in association with Valiant up on the site?

Steve has some great ideas and seems to have the proper focus and motivation, he's got the nack. I'm actually trying to downsize from 8 longboxes. I'm impressed how well he organizes his VAULT.
Cudos Steve on making such a dynamic comeback. You're a great asset to the board!

I seem to remember seeing about the same thing at my local EB Games along with a bunch of Turok action figures that they could not sell at the time. They really seemed to be targeting the younger crowd with their marketing so I guess that's why I only gave the thing only a passing glance.Unblessed wrote:I saw about 20 of these at an EBGames back in 2002. Wasn't this they year that acclaim also paid 7 people to change their names to Turok for the ad campaign?

This one's old news, demand seems to have died recently. I think the last one sold for just over $50. I doubt this one will get a bid.fury143 wrote:Not my auction but here may be another issue for you guys to fight over:) SHADOWMAN 2 VOLUME #3 ACCLAIM ( only 750 printed) Item number: 6507801127. I have this one. Hopefully a board member will win and sell me one of the eb turoks! Just dreaming I guess.
