Re: Harbinger #2 Discussion Thread (of course with spoilers)
I did not get to read this book until the Jeo/Poker game at SDCC Fri. night.
I got to read it on the iPad of Pleasure (AKA: Dino's iPad). I also got to read it next to Dino, so I kinda got the Director's Cut. This book was GREAT! I will agree with what has already been said about the art. There was only one panel where I thought the faces were off. Compared to #1, the art was outstanding!
The first 5 pages, the Darpon story, was maybe my favorite section of any book so far. I LOVED, LOVED the coloring and tone of them. A to the +. Dysart created a truly creepy situation and really set up Darpon was a MAJOR power in the universe to come. Think about it..... Darpon was almost able to overwhelm Toyo, the most powerful man in the world, and Darpon was only a baby!
Loved it!
The action was great, and the character development/conflict was very emotional. I liked the "encouragement" that Toyo was giving to Pete, kinda like Obi Wan to Luke on the Falcon, "..... just let go....." Creepy.
The Rising Spirit connection for me is huge. The idea that Rising Spirit has govt connections is BIG for the future of the universe. It really sets up Iwatsu as a major player in books to come.
for me, Harby #2 is a 5/5.

It's great to read these two books and then re-read the original Harbinger ... I thought those were great books for their time but the new stuff is more intense and less cartoony.
Not sure what Pete sees in Kris either time, though. She was a sneaky creep the first time around, but who knows how she will be in the new books? And Joe has made it through two issues, a new record for him.

I was rereading Harbinger and noticed the blue bird appears in both issue 1 and 2. I think there is more to it than just background. It looks to me like it's watching Peter and Harada. I'm thinking it could be Darpan.BugsySig wrote:I saw it on the second look through. Only time will tell, but I still don't think they're gay.etos45 wrote:And I don't know if it's me trying to read into things, but the way they said goodbye didn't sound like two guys that were "just friends". I thought they were going to kiss there for a second.
Twice Joe referred to Kris as a "hot chick". Once was actually a "bangin' hot chick".
If he was gay, you'd think that he would have mentioned that her shoes were faaaaaaaaaabulous!!!

Re: Harbinger #2 Discussion Thread (of course with spoilers)
I'm liking this idea - although, if it is... Is Darpan actually present? If he was, it's curious that his powers are not affecting Pete. Which suggests either Harada is dampening his power, or is projecting what is happening with Pete into Darpans mind (and therefore the bird is merely symbolically present), or Darpan has learned to control his abilities at this point. The Dirt Gang wrote:I was rereading Harbinger and noticed the blue bird appears in both issue 1 and 2. 2) Harbinger logo bird?
It could be that this particular breed just has some symbolic relevance to Harada & therefore would be an inspiration for the logo...

Nah, I don't think Kris is pregnant, if she was than it would be waaaaaay to early to tell and her mood swings wouldn't have come that fast. If for some odd reason she is than we wouldn't know until probably another 4-5 issues in once this current storyline is finished with and there is room to add a new element, but I'd bet all my chips and say she's not pregnant at all.

I would not call her reaction to being mind-taken as a mood swing. It is a righteous fury over being violated in an unprecedented manner.manga4life wrote:Nah, I don't think Kris is pregnant, if she was than it would be waaaaaay to early to tell and her mood swings wouldn't have come that fast. Same here. Sure, it's nice to have movie poster style covers, but dialogue balloons can draw readers in too. They engender curiosity in a potential buyer, and in this market make the book stand out among the other covers on the LCS rack.Tim wrote:I like that there was a dialog balloon on the cover.

The Vine may have a long life span...

Re: Harbinger #2 Discussion Thread (of course with spoilers)
They're 12,500 kms apart from each other, BUT over a span of 1600 years that works out to 8km/year. So it's possible Darpan's a descendent, even if there's no reason yet to really suspect it.caniac wrote:Finally got to read this...best book put out so far!

Knowing Tull is from Project Rising Spirit, and seeing what PRS is able to do to Bloodshot mentally (as talked about in the last couple panels of Bloodshot #1), I think Joe Irons was totally correct in his diagnosis of Mr. Tull in Harby #1. I think PRS keeps putting a new memory cap on Mr. Tull the same was as they do on Bloodshot.
