Thanks for the good word. I give depluto the lion's share of the credit for the Ultraverse stuff, as I'm pretty sure he was the one who came up with the initial list we have all worked on plus triggered my interest in Ultraverse in the first place. I just happen to be anal enough about stuff that if there is a question about something, I'll do my best to dig up the answer.Knightt wrote:I always look to Brother J and even depluto (otherwise known as Mandingo) on Ultraverse. A few years back, there was a lot of research that went into collecting this data.Brother J wrote:X-O HoboJoe wrote:"Someone's gonna check their shortboxes and prove me right."Chiclo wrote:HA!Brother J wrote:pausing the podcast again...
The dispute about what order the Ultraverse books were first released in. Here's the correct order, as I just went through the early Ultraverse checklists included in the books:
Month 1: Prime, Strangers, Hardcase
Month 2: Mantra, Freex
Month 3: Exiles, Prototype
Month 4: Firearm, Solution
Month 5: Night Man, Sludge
Month 6: Rune
Chiclo: 2 ZWH: I'm not counting.

This is the definition I am going to use for the rest of my collecting days. Nicely stated!Brother J wrote:going to pause the podcast in the middle and discuss one of the earliest topics, whether something is an imprint or a universe. Imprint is a publishing term to me, while a universe is a storyline term, so you're really talking apples and oranges there.
Can an imprint be a dead universe? Yes, Milestone was an imprint, but also was it's own universe until DC recently merged them. Are all imprints universes? Of course not, Vertigo is an imprint, but many of their titles are set in the DC Universe proper (at least at the beginning of Vertigo). There's also a difference between defunct companies and dead universes, in that many of the defunct companies like Comico didn't have a shared universe. We keep track of them in the Dead Universe section because they are similiar to the dead universes in that it's cool to collect a finite set of books, especially ones where the majority of issues can be obtained cheaply.
Like Chiclo stated at the beginning, a universe is a set of characters and titles with a shared continuity and storylines that don't generally cross over with other universes (unless the companies try something dopey, like Deathmate).
If you guys come to this conclusion later in the podcast (the part I haven't listened to yet) then...

Comico....which I will always and forever pronounce as "Comic-oh"....is a dead company. They want me to pronounce it "co-MEE-co" (which is what I think you meant), they'll have to start publishing again....and THAT ain't happenin' anytime soon.turborip wrote:Chiclo was right on another point. Comico is indeed pronounce "Com-eee-ko". You never would think it. On an episode of Comic Geek Speak, they interviewed someone from Comico (former editor-in-chief, or head of marketing, some such) and he set everyone straight on the correct pronunciation.

Yeah, "co-MEE- co is indeed what I meant. And good counterpoint!ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Comico....which I will always and forever pronounce as "Comic-oh"....is a dead company. I'm actually not that much of a stickler for pronunciation. My first high school shop teacher was from England and the first metal he pronounced was 'aluminum'. I watched 13 juvenile deliquents jaws hit the floor back then!

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Yes. I was going to make a public statement that I was wrong. It happens so rarely might as well make a party of it, but you already took care of that part.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Chiclo: 2 ZWH: HA!Someone who is in a position to know wrote:It's "bon-i-face", not "bon-i-fah-chi", French, not Italian.
Also - Comico. We are both 1 for 1.
I can admit when I am wrong. I am not a woman.
